My old Hewlett-Packard inkjet crapped out and now I need a new one. My H-P experiences are mixed, and I don't even know if they sell them here, so what is a good color printer that is available here off-base? Reliability and long cartridge life are my main criteria. Photo printing quality is only a secondary consideration.

Options might be limited... Epson or Cannon. Might be able to find HP at Yamada Denki not sure.... They are rather overpriced compared to online and cartridges out in town are fairly expensive too. Not a wide selection out there from what I've seen. I have an HP scan-jet and it goes through ink like crazy

Hey Steve, you want me to go to the PX and buy you one and sell it to you as a legitimate gift for weddings, funerals, etc?

Yeah, ten years of supporting HP, including Carly Fiorina, by buying their cartridges!!!!! I started to use refill kits, which work OK but are messy.
I have a friend who works for HP, started out in their printer division, which for years was the biggest moneyspinner HP had because of the ink cartridges. So who likes Epson and who likes Canon? My wife had a Canon portable that was always needing some expensive part. |

I've got a brother MFC and it's perfect. I an fax, scan, copy, print, and print pictures if I wanted to. Not to mention I have it hooked into my lan so my wife can print via her wireless connection. The only downside is that it "cleans" itself every once in a while and uses ink to do that. So if you don't print you'll still use ink. Cartriages are about 11 bucks but I'm not sure of the price off base. Paid 100 bucks for mine and I'm happy with what I got.
Here is the exact model I got. http://www.brother-usa.com/mfc/Model...uctID=MFC465CN

http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/Model...ductID=MFC240C I've ALSO got a Canon S520, because I do a lot of colour printing, and the cartridges are refillable...I've saved a LOT of $$$!!! I bought the Brother MAINLY because I needed a new scanner, and the Yokota BX no longer sells "stand alone" scanners. The output quality of BOTH printers is VERY acceptable. If you're going to be doing a LOT of printing, I'd HIGHLY recommend a printer that has refillable cartridges. You can order "bulk ink" quite reasonably over the 'net. -Oki Alumni ![]()

I've read that Brother makes good stuff. Non-refillable cartridges is a big minus though, and anyway I have a scanner/fax that still works so I am after just a single-function printer.
Are Epson cartridges refillable????? |
