Default Have you ever been to Kume Island?

Kume Island was one of the first outlying islands of the retto I have ever gone to. My wife and I rode our mountain bikes from our apartment to Naha Wharf, bought tickets for a ferry, checked our bikes into the hull of the ship and then boarded.

If I recall correctly, it was about a 2 hrs ride. The ferry was pretty large and there was a lot of activity with fork lifts and cargo net covered pallets loading and off loading large supplies and goods. What surprised me was how dangerous that was and the fact that the ship crew offered no control of the passengers running in and out of the hull to get their scooters, motorcycles or bikes (like us). Pandemonium and an accident waiting to happen. But, none never did.

Kume was pretty good for mountain biking. One part had a pretty steep hill climb, but after that it was pretty flat and enjoable.

On the 2nd day there was a minyo festival that they said they had only once every 4 years. I like listening to minyo and shamisen so that was just excellent. Lots of minyo singers from all over Okinawa.

Stayed 4 days camping on the beach in a small tent. Carried all our stuff in back packs. That was when we didn't have dogs, so arranging another trip like that would not be on the spur of the moment like it was then. But, I'd love to do something like that again.

Has anyone else been there? If so, what did you do there?

A couple of my friends went there a few weeks ago and said they really enjoyed it. They stayed in a beautiful hotel for the night and I think it only cost them about 10,000 yen for the whole trip, thats not too bad.

I want to take my wife there someday soon.

Great place. Took the family out there for a quicky leave it all behind vacation and had a blast. We went if off season and saw the Rakuten Golden Eagles do their spring training out there. A good time.

I tried to get tickets to go there next weekend but the price went up! They said it was their busy season now. I hate how japanese companies do that!
