Been to Yuron, it was ok. Also been to Kume and it was ok. Got drunk, went to the beach, banged some chicks. I guess it is ok if you want to get away from Okinawa for awhile. But nothing really fantastic going on there.

Yoron is really nothing special like someone said earlier. Was there about two years ago.
Izena or Iheya are pretty nice. Again nothing speacial but a lot closer and kind of like Okinawa was 30 years ago minus all the snacks and GI bars. Nice place to chill out for a couple days though. Iheya has a pretty nice camp ground on the south end.

What about Taketomi? The in laws own a soba shop/hostle somewhere on the island. You could visit ishigaki and/or Irimote and then make your way to Taketomi.

You can ride the cow cart though the sand streets.
![]() It is a very tiny island though and you do have to fly to Ishigaki first and then take the ferry to Taketomi. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&so...,0.676346&z=11 We had plans to go there and stay with my wife's aunt and uncle who run the soba shop/hostle I was talking about but I got PCS orders so I was never able to go. Her dad was also originally from there and I always wanted to visit. It would be an awesome vacation for me because I could dive and sit on the beach all day

I went there not too long ago on a snorkeling trip. Awesome underwater life. Clear water like most of the island. And not alot of people. I definately reccommend it

Loved that place. It might have been your in-laws place where I ate the best yaki soba on earth. Back then we have the famous hover craft that speed you thru the other surrounding islands. That all alone was fantastic. |
