That article is crap. US enviromental standards enforced on base are more strict than the GoJ so WTF?
The way the SOFA is now is fine. Get a damn indictment first. The US said if they record the interrogations they'll go with it so again WTF? I just bought a new sofa and the GoJ can't have that one.

Hey the crime is off bases, Im all for the JPs having him/her. Just cause your military doesnt mean you shouldnt be punished by the local law.
If a JASDF member robbed an old lady in L.A. etc. americans would want him/her convicted by local laws. Its just the same. |

What are you talking about canjap?
SOFA people are required to follow all Japanese laws. SOFA people who are arrested by the local police off base are punished by the Japanese. All the SOFA does is require an indictment if the guy made it back to base and he gets accused at a later time. Also if the police are actually chasing you the MPs let the JPs right through the gate so there's no running away if they're activly in pursuit of you. If they change the SOFA it will leave too much room for he said/she said bullshit. Plus the US even said they will go with it if the Japanese record their interrogations. The ball's in their court.

Also the UCMJ is more strict than Japanese and regular US law.
One of the strictest legal systems I know of besides Singapore's Military's law.
