The Club Cavern is the first strip show I saw on Okinawa in Sept. 63. A real good looking chick performed a mock solo self assist conceiled by a fancy scarf, while squirming on the bandstand floor. One of the roads shown beside the club led to an off limits town we used to call "New Koza"

That would have been the road to the right. I used to go to New Koza in 1968-1969. The bars were A-Sign then so not off limits. I just remember the crap drinks made with some kind of phony booze in the American whiskey bottles!

Exclamation NOW he tells us!!!

Hey gals and guys. Popped into my head yesterday during one of my "semi lucid" moments with this damn sickness I've got. All you picture AND local history buffs can probably find a MINE of stuff at the local installation History offices. I worked briefly for the History Office at Yokota, and I spent a LOT of time checking out "how things were". Weekend is on us, so file this among things to do when you've got the free time during the week.

From what a friend told me, New Koza was the place to go in the 50's. By 1968 it was the place to stay away from. It was pretty low class compared to BC St.
One of the reasons I drank beer was because of the "Phony Booze". It was safer also. When In Juarez we use to drink beer and it had to be brought to us unopened. With mixed drinks it was easy for them to slip a Micky in it, also you didn't know if the ice was made with good old Mexican tap water and not bottled water. In Vietnam the ice in your drink could contain ground glass.

Regards

I wish I was on Okinawa so I could do just that. There must be a ton of cool pictures.

Ox buddy, if you can get a mailing address, the HO's will most likely be more than willing to make copies for ya. The one I worked in did, and there wasn't any charge to the "customer" at all.

Does anyone remember "Blackie the Photographer". He was the main man for unit yearbooks and Okinawa cultural pictures back when I was there. In fact I have two yearbooks full of Okinawa pictures.

Here are a few photos from some photo packs that Blackie sold on Okinawa in the mid-1950's.

Tea House August Moon, probably 1956-57 based on the new looking 1956 Plymouth parked in the front. The tea house opened in Dec 1952.

Tea House dancers at Naminoue

Okinawan Sumo match

Barracks or other military building during a typhoon, no indication where on Okinawa.

Would anyone happen to know an address where I might send a request?
