Conservatives are so stoopid!! Its just bewbs, how can a kid be damaged by looking at something as plain as the human body....

LOCAL NEWS EXPOSES BREASTS

Last week, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C. ran a two-part special on breast cancer that featured women giving themselves breast exams. And they showed it ALL, baby. Aw yeah. That’s a sexy search for cancer. However, the “important public service” angle was smeared by the “airing during sweeps” angle:

The Parents Television Council reacted cautiously to news of the series but suggested it saw the potential for problems.
“We hope that WJLA-TV is not using a crucial public health issue as a ratings stunt, and that the station has fully considered what is appropriate to tell this important story to the public in the most suitable manner possible,” the group said in a statement. [Yahoo]

The video above is the “Good Morning America” segment on the story, and it’s boring as hell. But the good news is that the original report is here, both informative and not safe for work. I found it extremely enlightening, and even though Breast Cancer Awareness Month is now over, women should remember to conduct monthly breast exams. Particularly in the shower. Preferably with my hands.

Are you sure that group is conservative? Many of the weirdo factions are libs. ACLU, NAACP, and so on.

Just because they find it offensive doesn't mean they're conservative. Not arguing the stupidity factor though. The more we ignore issues the more we find ourselves blindsided by them later. Although I don't think I'd be as interested in a special about self testicular cancer or prostate cancer exams. Maybe that's just me.

since conservatives run on the platform for "family values" and abstinence education. I wouldnt see how liberals would be up in arms about this.

I really don't care. Its not porn or a striptease, its a clinical exam. But hey I'm a just a moderate....

I tend to agree with your assumption that this group is of the conservative variety, but I was wondering if you had evidence to support the claim.

I see dk groaned me although I'm not sure why. I agreed that bitching about such a thing was stupid, and only was pointing out that the left also has wackos who do not represent the majority. So unless dk is in favor of self prostate check documentaries... I don't see the cause for groaning.

And because of it I would be willing to bet that plenty of women probably aren't getting the information that they need to perform this simple test on themselves.

I wouldnt label everyone that is a member of the ACLU or NAACP as being wackos.

They may have a stand on issues that you may not agree with but to overly generalize almost makes me want to think that you are a bit wacko yourself.

Personally I think the Christian Right is a hell of a lot more wacko than either of these associations that you referred to in your post.

I think the the Religious Right and the groups I mentioned (plus others like Code Pink) are all about the same. They may have started with good intentions and purpose but have turned out to be craptastic money mongerers who couldn't care less about the people. It's all about the money and fame for them. Yes the Right has weirdos, but so do the left. My point is that just being weirdo doesn't make you one group or the other.
