Maybe it's just me, but I think you should be able to ask about anything at any point. If you can't be honest now, what makes me think you'll be honest later? Plus, if you feel you have something to hide I'm not sure I want to know you when you go through your self destruction phase because you can't handle who you are.

I have to disagree. That is probably what is going wrong at this point. It's a FIRST date so it's pretty much a paid introduction. I don't think too serious of questions should be asked right away nor should overly sexual ones unless you plan on boning that night. If they come up, answer them but skirt around the hard hitting point. First dates are all about first impressions. Try not to be too intense but don't be a detached flake either.

If the first date goes well, by all means get more serious with subsequent ones. IMO, the first shouldn't be serious, shouldn't be too intrusive, nor should it be all about one person.
