My food tastes are seasonal. It is kinda chilly now, so I like warmer foods.

My fav Japanese food for this time of year is Nikuman.
Nikuman (肉まん) is a Japanese food made from flour dough, and filled with cooked ground pork or other ingredients and steamed. Types include: Nikuman (filled with beef and vegetables), Butaman (filled with pork and vegetables), Anman (filled with azuki beans), Pizzaman (filled with a pizza sauce filling with cheese sausage and peparoni), Kaniman (filled with crab and vegetables) and Curryman (curry filled)

My fav Okinawan food for this time of year is Soki Soba.
Soki, or spare ribs, are cooked in soy sauce, sugar and awamori (Okinawan liquor). Soki Soba is served in a tasty soup with Okinawan Noodles and topped with big chunks of soki.

Yup......I'm with P and GT as far as Yaki Niku and Chicken Katsu......I'm a simple guy. Man, this tonkatsu sauce is like crack cocaine......I wanna eat chicken katsu with this sauce until I explode!

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b276/MyCammer/tonkatsu.jpg

Also, those real thin white cold noodles are good and sukiyaki too......I know, I know, ya'll said "favorite", as in 1 food but it's hard.....and I'm hungry.

Yaki nikku is pretty much "Asian food" or "Texas food" dudes. I like it too, but dang, it's still BBQ'd beef. Add some ginger to the Japanese version of the sauce and you have the South East Asian version. Add some chili flakes, and you have the US SW version. Add peanut sauce and you have the Tamil version.

I'm with GT on the favorites though. Katsu don and Okinawa soba for me too. I also like gyoza, but that is Chinese.

I don't appreciate Japanese food though. It pales in comparison to Okinawan food, and is bland in taste.

Yeah I know but I still love it:D

I'm not a big fan of don but I'll have some from time to time. I go on katsu binges and get it a few times a week and then I'll get sick of it for a while. Some of the best katsu I had was at Wafutai. They put cheese in the chicken katsu:w00t:

I'm also craving some soba right now. I had some soki soba from a place in shuri that had some really tasty noodles. I like sanmainiku a little more then soki only because most soba places I've been to had too much soft bone on the meat.

Damn......I miss soba a lot:(

First and foremost I love Soki Soba (especially when my grandma makes the soki), miso soup w/rice (loved it since I was a little girl), tsukemono, tempura,...the list goes on. I'm hungry now!!

chikuwa, and senbei (not really a food but more like a snack...rice crackers)

I can't pick one. Yakiniku really isn't Japanese, correct. Korean? I like Yakiniku and Shabu Shabu though. Japanese, hmm... Tonkatsu, shimarakyo (badass), yakitori, dang, just about anything found in a good izakaya that isn't seafood or intestines. I really love shimarakyo, though. When those are in season, my breath is horrible, and I like it.

Sapporo Raman, IMO Sapporo has the best food/beer Japan has to offer hands down! If it wasn’t so damn cold up there, I would consider retiring in that area. Okinawa Soba is very good, but I’m not real big on any other foods here on Island.

I don't really care all that much for miso soup, but man, you can get some good miso soup outdoors at some places in mainland Japan. It's awesome when it's freezing cold. That hot, sweet, kinda chunky, not very strong sake sold in the winter is good too. Not really food though...

Ate my first ostrich meat here, so I guess I can say that I like ostrich too.

You know the only possible way to know that natto might have the pungent aroma of unwashed feet is to have actually eaten it.

natto smell can be overcome, but the texture is like snot with lumps in it.

On those islands to the West, a typical breakfast is a mostly cooked egg, yagi soup, (goat) with shiro miso, a bowl of white rice and a plastic container of natto.

It is even worse with a kume-sen hangover.

that looks absolutely disgusting!!!!!

I gotta go with you on that assesment. It does look and smell nasty. But the Kim Chi natto is pretty good. I dont mind the taste of natto, but when I eat it, the small strings that are produced by picking some up get stuck in my beard. Kinda like when I eat a fresh, out of the oven pizza, The strings of melted cheese are all over my beard and mustache. Or when I chug a big mug of Frosty Malt Chilly, the beer drips down my beard.

Wait....I think I'm a barbarian. All I need is a horned helmet and a battle axe.

Or maybe I should just use one of those things called "napkins.
