NAHA -- The local office of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry failed to notify a local fire station about a fire that destroyed a China Airlines jet at an airport here on Monday, officials said.

The office is required to notify the local fire station of any fire that breaks out at Naha Airport.

At about 10:30 a.m., a fire broke out on a China Airlines Boeing 737-800 jet after it arrived at Naha Airport. All passengers and crewmembers managed to escape.

Three fire engines belonging to the Air Safety Foundation were dispatched to the scene in a bid to extinguish the blaze. Four others later joined the operation.

At the time, nobody was in the security and disaster prevention division of the airport office, and it was unable to alert a fire station operated by the local government. Moreover, the foundation also forgot to notify the local government's fire station.

An off-duty worker at the airport office who happened to be near the airport alerted the fire station, which dispatched about 30 fire engines to the scene more than 10 minutes after the fire broke out. (Mainichi)

That's it! I am hanging a Taiwan flag upside down in protest. And I am wearing a fire hat BACKWARDS!

Hey, I wonder how this will affect that multi-million Taiwan dollar insurance claim!
