When I would go into that general area I would normally take the expressway. But then I'd turn right at a signal with a family mart on the left and cut though the mountain. I'm horrible with directions and remembering route numbers:D.
It all really depends on the traffic. If traffic isn't too bad then you could probably make it there in about 45 minutes.
:edit: Now that I think about it I believe it was route 329.

Go out KAB gate 5 to Chibana, keep going. At the light is 329, take a left. Take the second light (I think) and go left to the expressway, go North (Nago). Get off expressway on exit 8. It is the Kin exit. Take a left and look to the left.
I think! lol!

I don't like having to take too many turns when going to an unfamiliar place. Taking the expressway at the #2 IC from Foster's Kishaba gate is easiest. Simply head north toward Nago, and exit at Kin. Turn left onto the main road, which I think is Rte. 329. The base is on the left after a couple kilometers. Going the speed limit or just around 100 kph, it might take you anywhere from a half hour to an hour. Good luck. :)

Dude! Okinawa is not that big. Just get in the car and take off in any direction (north or south) and just drive, eventually you'll get there.

Thank you for that excellent post!
OP is a woman, new here, asking for driving times and directions. She's probably not out with her Marine buddies and a case of beer screaming "Road Trip!"

I like having directions for a general direction of which way I need to go but I don't sweat getting lost here in Okinawa. Hit one side of the island, turn around. I definitely don't worry about get from base to base. Now Japanese businesses can be tricky to find. Meiho taxi HQ was tough to find even with having someone who spoke Japanese with us but I found a junkyard and the Koza driving school. :D

You should know me enough by now that I absolutely don't give a flying fak about the PC police, especially if it involves the declared war on the bitches.
Hell man, I got a penis, I'm set.

The expressway will get you there faster but you'll need some yen
Here's one way to get from Foster to Hansen:
*Exit Foster via Gate 5-Kitamae (near bowling alley/commissary) turn right on RT58.
*Head north until you reach the three-way intersection of RT58 and RT23.
*Turn right on RT23
*Keep driving for a couple of miles, past gate 5 Kadena (school gate), you should see a sign for the Okinawan Expressway.
*At the intersection of RT23 and the Expressway entrance (#4 Okinawa Minami), turn left and proceed to the toll gate (do not go through ETC line!).
*Take ticket
*Take the left on-ramp (should say Nago on the sign) and continue travelling on the expressway until you reach exit #8 (Kin)
*Get off expressway at exit #8 and proceed to the ticket booth (do not go through ETC line!)
*Hand the ticket to the toll-booth-guy and pay fee (should be 450 yen)
*Head on down the off ramp until the road ends at a T-intersection.
*Turn left on RT329 and keep going straight... eventually, on your left, you'll see Camp Hansen, Can't miss it. :)

Yes I know.................
The whole thing just caught me becasue of the traffic here...... today it paced out at 13 mph. We had a problem between the MOD and another brainiac MLC engineer. It took 1 hour 14 minutes to traverse a 17 mile trip..........one way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:barf::barf::barf::barf::barf::b arf::barf::barf::barf:

I hear that. I've had enough of this, the employer, the micro-cosm, all of it.
Cutting the strings bit by bit, and I'll be gone within a couple of months. Or as they used to say, "in the Spring thaw."

I drive to Hansen 'bout twice a week. Get on the Kitanakgusuku expressway exit by Foster, head north to Nago, get off at the Kin exit take a left, and your like 3 mins from Hansen. Overall like 25-30 minutes....less if you drive like I do.
Here's one way to get from Foster to Hansen:
And one other way would be to stick one or two apendages that most females above the age of 18 have hidden beneath some form of clothing that covers their upper body, out for a passing Japanese male motorist to see. :smile4:
I am fairly certain that you will either cause a major traffic accident, depending of course upon the overall size and texture of said appendage, or you will have a line of cars all lining up to take you where ever you wish to go.
Just remember to ask for Kin Cho....which is the village that Camp Hansen is in.
You might be asked to show the rest of what ever you have hidden but hell no need to go all the way, and you can always just say you dont know any Japanese beyond the word Kin Cho. You are a female and everyone knows, females are masters at getting what they want with only a little teasing.:-|

I think everyone covered the answer for you.
Fastest route: Exit 3 Kitanakagusuku to Exit 8 Kin...travel time about 30-40 min.
58 to 23 to 85 to 329: About 50 minutes unless you travel during rush which would increase travel time to about 1hr 15min.
Or you could take 58 to 104, when 104 meets 329 turn right...travel time about 50 minutes...unless it is beach season...then I suggest you don't use this route as it could take 2 hours.
Then you could also take 58 until you get to Onna-son...there are several goat trails that will get you over to Kin...if you are adventurous. Travel time varies, but they are definitely faster than everything but the expressway.

If you drive the posted speed you can make it from Foster to Hansen any where between 45 minutes to 1½ hours . Depending on the numerous routes you can take and the time of day and the weather conditions.
I done been driving between the two for over 15 years and the FASTEST way next to the express way is get on 58 at Foster go north and stay on it until you get to the Ishikawa cross over then shoot over to 329 and take it up to Hansen. It might be a little further mile wise but it's a lot faster and the speed is posted at 60 k where as on 239 it's 40 & 30 most of the way with a million signals.
as on 239
:scratchchin: Do you mean 329?
