This is a thread for people to ask about where to buy things on the island, not online or in another part of Japan or another country... ON OKINAWA.
NEVERMIND... I found something online that ships to us afterall. Thanks, Trail! :D
I am going to start this, because I have a question.
Where can I buy high thread count sheet sets or comforter and sheet sets in a queen size? Would Mistukoshi or Roger's at Plaza S.C. have it? How do you ask for high thread count in Japanese? What about Egyptian cotton?

I think you had best clarify what size you are looking for.:scratchchin:

Socal, honestly... the shipping on Overstock.com for sheets is worth it. You can pick up high thread count sheets for decent prices.
I know this was supposed to be ON-Island but... you might save more ordering in all honesty.

Where on island can you buy bongo drums. Not the real nice ones, but some inexpensive ones that I can take to the beach and spill beer on. Like this:

There is a leather shop on 58 by the "fishing supply" place. I thought I saw bongos in there once.

Leather shop? You mean I can buy my black leather chaps AND bongo drums !! Sa-Weeeet. :thumbup1:.
I'm really just looking for some to use for a beach party or two. The ones I saw at Teruya on BC Street were like 8000 yen, thats like $100 now. $10-$20 price range is what i'm looking for.

Fukahara music store, on 330 between gate 2 and BC street, 2nd floor. If they don't have, Teruya music on BC will surely have them, they have more drum gear.

Actually porno king, i've found over the years buying things from wires to drumsets to repairs, that teruya is somewhat more cheap. But do a price survey, maybe they give a discount to those who like to rake sand.........for beer that is

Socal what exactly is high thread count?
Thread count is the total threads which run horizontally and vertically in a square inch of fabric. Higher thread count indicates a tighter weave and lends softness to the material. A thread count of at least 200 makes a wonderful, long lasting sheet. Sheets with a thread count of 300-400 are a little nicer yet still affordable. 400-900 thread count sheets may cost a little more, but if it is softness you want, these sheets are wonderful. Thread counts of 1000 or more make very soft and smooth sheets, but the finer threads used to achieve this high thread count often make these types of sheets less durable.

I think 1000 is the magic number to qualify for EC.
I'm interested in how the feel after a night's sleep and a couple of laundry jobs. I have issues with getting a full night's sleep.

What next talking about layers of latex in condoms?:smile4:
Edited to add....
After years of falling on the ground and sleeping just about anywhere I think you could put sandpaper sheets on the bed and I wouldn't know the difference.

They always got them at the Makeman in Chatan. It's in the back in the mats and flooring section next to the dog food.

Do any of you know where I can get personalized stationery done on island?
I tried ordering it online, but they don't ship to Japan or APO contrary to their advertising. (I'm getting really sick of false shipping information from those bastages too. I'm getting pissed the frak off actually.) Does no one use personalized stationery anymore? I've seen businesses with it. Where the heck do they get it?
Stationary? For writing letters??? Like paper??? :p

Decently priced or even a second hand store for baby clothes OFF-base.
The Treasure Hunt recycle shop (big green and white building...go out Legion Gate and just keep going straight until you see it on the left) has baby clothes. I'll probably be picking some up this weekend.

Thanks AB! I've been having difficulty finding 12 month old clothing (and older) for my daughter since the length will be right but the waist size is way too big.
That place sells just about everything else you could imagine too. If you have old clothes, they'll buy them off you.

Sa-weet! I have a bunch of baby clothes that I need to get rid of. I was going to do the Ebay thing and sell them in lots but this sounds easier. You've made my day AB!
Well, you could probably make more money on ebay (not taking in to account shipping costs), but it's a quick way to make a little bit of cash and get rid of some stuff with little hassle.

I'm not too concerned with make a lot of money. We'll be PCS'ing in roughly 9 months and in actuality, time will go by quite fast. I also thought about doing the flea market thing on Foster but maybe when it cools down a bit this fall.
I do plan on Ebay'ing the winter coats and such I have for her since I have a feeling that they will not sell well here in Okinawa. :grin1:
My directions may be a bit poor. Basically, keep going straight out of the legion gate, go down that big hill and all that. Treasure Box is just before Comprehensive Park.

I'm looking for Garam Masala (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garam_masala) and ground turmeric. Both are crucial curry ingredients that I can't find on base or off. I asked the girl at Kanahide and she gave me a funny look and didn't understand what I needed.

Try the specialty import shop on the first floor of Plaza House shopping center.
Oh, and Tumeric is Ukon in Japanese and they should have it most anywhere.

I'm pretty sure that the tumeric is available at the commissary. We bought it somewhere before. I'll try to ask the wife later.
When you ask for the Garam Masala off base anywhere say "ga ra mu ma sa la", should be out there..
