The Yomiuri Shimbun
YOKOHAMA--Two youths were arrested early Sunday on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and stealing his handgun and handcuffs on a road in Minami-Ashigara, Kanagawa Prefecture, police said.
The officer was attacked after going to the scene to investigate a report of hot-rodders in the area at about 2:15 a.m., according to Matsuda Police Station. As the officer pursued the youths, who had abandoned their motorcycle, they wrestled him to the ground, put him in a full-nelson and stole his gun and cuffs.
The officer, 30, suffered minor injuries to his knee and other parts of his body.
After he called for backup, officers from the station arrested the pair--a 17-year-old Peruvian in his third year at a private high school and an unemployed 16-year-old--at a nearby house at about 2:30 a.m., the police said.
