As a female, I gotta say, ladies need to pick up their vigilance when it comes to personal safety!
I can't tell you how many lolly-gagger ladies I see when out & about. Crime rates continue to rise, happening in broad daylight (as it did in the Kelsey Smith case) and you still see many gals being unsafe when out alone. Digging for their keys once at their car, yakking on the phone, texting, balancing their checkbook, checking their receipts, etc in an unlocked car.
Couple of safer things to do (though not guaranteed safety):
Find your keys while at or near the register.
If you have just a couple items don't place them in your car separately from yourself getting in.
Get in, lock the doors THEN place the bags in another seat.
Lock the doors and THEN check the receipt, or check it when you get home.
If it's getting dusk or is dark and you are uncomfortable as a sales associate to walk you out. I have actually had several workers at the stores be happy to get out of the building for a couple minutes to help me out.
Be aware of who's around you. In the store, in the parking lot. If a car continually follows you better safe and overly cautious to circle the parking lot or go an extra block and turn around.
You can also CCW to shoot the prick in the head (either one) :)
No, Seriously- be aware, be a safe as you can & follow your gut.
