You can find pretty much anything here...

They've even got all of the World of Warcraft expansions...

You can get basic nursery furniture here, but nothing fancy. If you are looking for designer anything, you need to bring them. There are also some toys that can't be shipped here via online shopping. You can work that out with family or friends stateside though. Otherwise, most baby things can be found here.

Aside from the personal things I mentioned previously, you can bring personal heaters, dehumidifiers or humidifiers, fans, big tvs, hella-stereos and sound systems, fancy furniture including bedroom, dining and living room sets, and stuff like that. Most things can be found here though.

If you have a favorite food that is only made in your town, then bring three yrs worth. :D Bring your favorite dresses and shoes and other clothes, especially if you're not built like Kate Moss or Delta Burke or have conservative tastes in clothing. That's a nice way of me saying that there are many choices for ghetto fabulous and gramma-grampa clothes. heh. uhm... Movies on DVD and music on CD... the selection here is limited.

I personally love that ghetto fabulous (if this is what i think it is) look on Japanese girls. There's a group of them that hang around the Family Mart near my work during lunch. It looked like a bunch of strippers just got off shift (or going on shift). Guess where I go for lunch? :thumbup1:

As for what to bring here...well, this isn't exactly a third world country. You're not going to be living in a shack in the jungle or anything. You can find the same stuff here that you can in the States or suitable replacements. I've been living here over a year and the only thing I miss from the States is those Chester Cheetah hot fries. You should bring me a couple bags of those :D Other than that, bring an open mind and the willingness to learn some basic Japanese. Those two things will make your stay here much more enjoyable than anything else. Too many people come here with a negative attitude, never leave the base, and leave here thinking Okinawa sucks and that there's nothing to do.

depending on if you are from one of the Big Cities i.e., New York, Chicago, Paris, London, or a small town from any Country. Okinawa and the Bases might be a level or two higher than Smal Town U.S.A. We have our Barney Fife (Military Police), Wall Mart (AAFES), the Beautiful Beaches along with the Beautiful Sunsets, plus so many other things if you have an open mind. Great place to raise a baby. The Glass is always half full. :dead::thumbup:

And I was serious...cockroach killer.

Pharmacies here sell 500 gm. packages of ~98% pure boric acid for about 700¥.

Boric acid is "basically" non-toxic (it is used diluted in eye cleansers and a variety of other products). It is the only ingredient roaches have been found to be unable to develop immunity to through centuries. Sprinkle some, lightly, on the infected areas (or place a dish with a glob of jelly or honey in the middle and a sprinkling of the powder on the perimeter).

The powder, electro-magnetically, clings to their legs. It is slow acting and after they've eaten the powder, it erodes their stomachs (after they've returned to the lair). As roaches are cannibalistic, the entire nest is soon destroyed.

They don't return, unless your neighbor is the problem, in which case, just repeat.

Bring Heroin... Lots of it...

You'll need it to cope with baby and Okinawan Lifestyle, plus you can sell a bit also to earn some extra cash.

I need to get some of this for my car. I had a roach infestation inside my doors a few months ago and now I have ants crawling out of my dashboard. My car is kept fairly clean so I don't know what keeps attracting these bugs.

I used to have the occasional roach and spider inside my apartment, but during the summer, we had a baby gecko get inside somehow. He's too quick for me to catch and hangs out behind my TV where I can't reach. I like having him around now though. I have had no bug problems since he showed up  Saw him crawling around on my wall last night and noticed he's gotten pretty big so he must be eating good.

To the best of my understanding it is a remedy specific to roaches - I don't know that other species would suffer from it - if you lived near here (Naha) I'd give you some (this container will last danny-millenia).
