Ah, well there's nothing that says two separate people can't create their own thread on the same subject. This one seems to have a different underlying premise than the one Socal created. Besides look at all of the spin off threads in the JU weekly section that pop up right after the Newsbot makes a post. Now those threads could easily be a regular post within one of the JUNewsbot's thread(s)

Maybe because you were the only one worried about it? :scratchchin:

I realize that as a moderator here you have to make choices.......
Common sense here Doug, or should I say good posting manners, using the search function before starting a thread on a topic that is already being discussed.
There used to be a a handy video for posting for n00bs....ah here it is, and it is pertinent here I would say.:scratchchin:

And if that person wishes to take a particular issue, subject or event in another direction it is usually best to create a new thread on said topic as not to derail the already existing thread... another thing to keep in mind.

Or maybe people here have just gotten used to nothing being done about stuff like this anymore and stopped commenting?:scratchchin:
Used to be a time here not all that long ago either when things like this were not tolerated by ANY of the moderating staff and taken care of in a timely manner as well.
I am not suggesting that things go back to that stage but think about it.

Look you can justify it however you want, fine with me I just brought it to your attention and if you notice this thread looks a hell of a lot like it was started to stir shit up, BUT it is not off topic in relationship to Socal's thread either and could have just as easily been attached to that as well, with a message to the author about your actions..

Fact is that socal's thread had died out and was slightly buried. Without a search (as you mentioned) it didn't show up easily and a new thread was started. Actually two threads were started at the same time last night. Most likely one did not show up right away, or the screen did not refresh and the poster went back and posted again. It was noticed, but with school work and other things going on, it was not viewed as an "emergency". It would have been handled, as far as the two identical threads are concerned.
I have to agree though that it wasn't necessary to combine it with socal's thread...however any member could have kindly pointed that thread out.

And you could have just as easily pointed to that thread in your post or reported it...instead you chose to do this:

Thank you either way. Don't misconstrue this as me bitching, I appreciate you pointing it out, as I had not even opened the threads in question.

And when you become the authority on what is to be considered as on or off topic or what threads and posts should be merged then I'll stop using my reasoning and justification and use yours. If you want to discuss moderation feel free to start another thread in the appropriate section.:thumbup1:

20. Do not discuss moderated posts within the thread they were moderated in. If you want to discuss the issue of why your post was moderated, post your question/topic in the "JU Forum Issues and Feedback" category or send a private message to one of the moderators or the administrator.
