I just wanted to let you guys know that the night shift ROCKS! We have an inventory going on this month and they needed some people for the night shift to do some research. Let me just tell you a few of the pro's that have come along with this:

1) I don't have to wear my uniform.

2) I get a lot more work done due to the absence of phone calls and random tasks.

3) I can play movies in the background to offset the silence.

4) I get to sleep in.

5) I can post on JU without looking over my shoulder.

6) I am now using the time between 1630 and midnight productively when before I would usually just hang out in my room.

7) My bosses aren't here to bother me.

8) I don't have to PT in the morning.

There are more but you get the idea. Here are some of the cons:

1) I don't get to drink beer.

Well I just wanted to share that with you guys. I hope that whatever career I end up in that I can work the night shift, it suits me.

I don't get it...why can't you drink beer?

<----Wondering if you're serious or not...

Assuming you are, I could still drink beer if I wanted to but it would have to be between midnight and 0830 (8 hours prior). During the week my friends are already in bed by that time and I'm not big on drinking alone. I'm not working weekends though so I will still drink then! But if I'm chatting with you guys then technically I'm not alone... :scratchchin: I got off work early tonight and I have 1 beer in my fridge and no PT tomorrow morning, and I'm chatting on JU... It's Miller time baby!

I was being serious. I don't drink often, but I don't let my shift dictate whether I do or not...as long as I don't drink 8 hrs prior.

Cool topic. I've worked "swing shift" for close to 10 years and loved it......maybe some people are just more geared to it naturally. Just as you mentioned, you can wake up when you want and you get the best part of the day for your own. Drawbacks?......once my kids entered school, I never saw them until the weekend. So that was the end of that. And......none of my friends worked that shift, so that was a little strange.

But yeah, no big bosses.....and we could "disappear" and grab some food or whatever for a few hours of ***k-off time......just as long as the work got done by the end of the night, our supervisor was flexible and cool. And much nicer to work at night in the summer too, if you work outside.

I used to get up around 0830, ride my bicycle to the beach, hang out for about 3 or 4 hours, ride back home and start work @ 3PM........awesome! Oh yeah, it's also nice to be able to run around and do all the little errands you need to do during the day while everything's open. Guess ya gotta be cool with hanging out by yourself at times.

Maybe I'll get back to swing shift after my kids are grown:dead:

I think Hugh Hefner's work schedule would also suit me.
