Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 14:26 EDT

MATSUDO — A 5-year-old boy who was physically abused last month by a man at his mother's workplace died on Wednesday night in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, police said Thursday.

Seina Saito, whose mother worked at a sex shop, died of brain contusion, police said. On July 31, he was thrown to the floor and beaten up repeatedly by Yukio Ikeya, 30, who also worked at the sex shop. He fell into a coma and died around 11 p.m. on Wednesday night at a hospital. The mother used to take the boy to her workplace as she had no one to look after him, and police suspect that Ikeya abused him on more than one occasion.

Both are horrible incidents. I think that the mother killing her own child is worse than the other. Regarding the story about the coworker killing the child, what's the point of repeatedly mentioning that they worked in a sex shop? yeesh...

Who knows, but usually in the case of a murder the media often repeats the type of work that the person did.

It's common practice

Kinda makes you wonder how many occurrences there were before they started putting it in the newspapers. When I was a kid here (gawd that makes me sound old, anyway...), the news didn't air people's "dirty laundry" in print. It was all very hush-hush.

Yeah, kind of makes you wonder if it's actually getting worse or if it really just is more news getting out than before.

Man arrested for allegedly strangling daughter, 7, son, 3, in Niigata

NIIGATA — A 35-year-old company employee was arrested Monday on suspicion of strangling his 7-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son at his apartment in Itoigawa, Niigata Prefecture, the same day, police said.

Prefectural police quoted Kunihiko Ogasahara as saying he strangled his daughter, Sae, and son, Yuto, with a piece of cloth. They are investigating what motivated the murders of the children. The alleged crime took place sometime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., the police said. Ogasahara lived in the apartment with the two children and his wife, who was at her part-time job during the day, police said.http://www.japantoday.com/jp/news/415056

You know, I would much rather read about Okinawans complaining about bases or Japanese people taking upskirt photos than having to read about PARENTS killing their own children in Japan every week. WTF is wrong with people?

Found this on one of the posts on the JapanToday forum. Maybe some of you might be interested. Just makes me feel a little sicker. http://www.crnjapan.com/abuse/en/

Good grief!
I really don't understand how people can do something like this so casually and then go about life, like no big deal. Where is the remorse?

my brain is really unable to grasp how one could do such a thing.

I do think it is likely not a new thing but being people's attention is drawn to the issue, it is now becoming something the news is focusing in on and actually reporting it.

It sells a paper, get viewers to tune in, it captures the audience.
Maybe something good will/could come of it's coverage and someone actually stand up and say NO MORE!!! And push to change the laws and enforce a new standard? Would be nice to see something decent come from such disgusting happenings.
