That is all they have ever been doing at Hansen training, and with a new element added to the mix it is now a concern (like it never was). JGSD has every right to get hard and do something in the jungle.

Range 4 became a big deal when the Army SF soldier began using it for training. It had been used by the Marines IIRC for quite some time before, even for heavy weapons training. Last I heard the Japanese gov is going to fork out around 12mil $US for the construction of a new training facility on Hansen and the Marines will still continue to train on range 4.... win/win for everyone I guess :)

I think the local communities have reason to be concerned about the increase in activities. I don't understand why it's an issue now, since they've been living with it for years already. It seems petty that the community is complaining about this one joint exercise, when there have been many they didn't bat an eye at previously.

Any protests by locals about training facilities, new airfields, etc. is all about money... how much cash the local villages can get out of the US and Japanese government.

Enlighten me, does the US government pay any money at all to offset these training areas? To my knowledge all monies are paid by the Japanese government. Or are you speaking indirectly?

The only facility monies paid by the Japanese government are for administrative spaces, living quarters, etc. They do not pay toward anything directly related to combat or combat training.

The question I am asking refers to your previous post:

Any protests by locals about training facilities, new airfields, etc. is all about money... how much cash the local villages can get out of the US and Japanese government.

...which makes it seem as though the US government is paying money to the local villages. That was what I was questioning. Did you misspeak or do you have more knowledge to offer on this subject to help clear this up?

What exactly is the "etc" that you refer to here?

Plus; from Doctor P...which makes it seem as though the US government is paying money to the local villages. That was what I was questioning. Did you misspeak or do you have more knowledge to offer on this subject to help clear this up?
I read it the same way as he did. Could you okibill clarify what you meant?
