Anyone got any good Karaoke bars they want to suggest? I love Club X and Good Times and if you go there often more than likely you have seen me because I am usually there every weekend. However, I do get burnt out by the same scene and like a change of scenery every now and then.

The problem with the karaoke places on gate 2 street is they're primarily places to drink. You can go to sing karaoke, but it's so public.

I've heard that Big Echo is really good, but I haven't been there.

We usually go to the karaoke place near the American Village in Mihama that's above the sushi-go-around behind Starbucks. This month, I think they're having a special campaign.
There's also a place behind the Makeman in the American Village down by the McDonald's. I've only been there once, but liked it.
Most karaoke places have private rooms and a public room. Most places also have a snack food and drink delivery system.

I don't remember the names of these places, but the signs may have this kind of writing on it:

Gotta love the cow. heh.

So far Club X is my favorite. It isnt as busy and there is a stage to sing on instead of just singing out in the crowds. Plus Club X has a door to keep it cold inside. Last time I went to Good Times I was pouring in sweat because it was of course hot but also because there were sooo many people. I dont drink there anyways. I usually start off at the banyan or the nco club and then make my way out gate 2. Drinks are too expensive off base. I may buy one to obtain my drunkeness but thats all.

I ended up just chillin' at Super Ladies Night at the Rocker NCO till 3am and then ate cheap, good breakfast at the bowling alley. First night I didnt lay down a dime. I drank me a 36 ounce bottle of vodka and cranberry..more vodka than cranberry and had me a hard buzz going before I got there. Then my friends bought me a couple drinks. Then this chick didnt want her tequila so I drank it. Didnt have to pay to get in because of course I am a club member. Breakfast was bought for me because my friend won $50 and she offered. I had $2 go buy something but she insisted. FUN,CHEAP night!!!

I wonder if you guys are aware of the differences between a karaoke bar and a karaoke house?

Big Echo and places like that are technically karaoke houses, you rent the room for so much per hour and order food and drinks.

A karaoke bar is more like a snack, where depending on the establishment, you pay for karaoke by the song, also drinks are, depending of the location of course, by the bottle, or beer. There are also service charges, or table charges, and usually have a female staff that comes and serves your drinks and drinks with you:crying::eek:.

ALOT more expensive than a karaoke house.

If you really like karaoke ther are some cheap places around as well, like PeterPan which is near Ryukyu University, it's about 1000 per hour at night, but during the daytime it is only about 500 to 800 yen per hour.

I personally love Shinsen Gumi, They have nice private Karaoke Rooms and the food and BEER are great, and I can walk there since I live right behind the Big Porn Book Store so it is right up the street. :P

I havent been to one that has private rooms. I actually like it better being around people I dont know. I like meeting new people and being in public ones allows that. Plus, the ones I go to dont cost a lot. Mostly because I dont buy food or drinks while I am there. I drink and eat on base before heading out gate 2. The songs are a $1 a piece.

...And you thought your karaoke singing was bad!

Most are regulars who come for the pleasure of the singing, and the police are rarely needed. (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/327017_karaoke10.html)

It's the bit about the police "rarely" being needed. Uhm... Have any of you seen anyhting like that happen here, either on or off base, where the cops had to be called to a karaoke bar or house? It's just so odd to me, and I've been to Good Times. heh.

Well i have read all your post, but you left one thing out. All these "Karaoke Boxes" on okinawa have american music, as does gate 2 street. But they are all Japanese versions of american music. I think you have heard the distinction.

I own Club Hank & Rumi in Ginowan city, 3 lights past futenma air base on highway 58. We have the largest selection of american music ( shipped from the states of course) on okinawa. Over 15,000 songs in all styles. We order monthly for the latest tunes of rock, country, radio play and hip-hop. We have seating for up to 45 in very clean club with leather sofas and a dance floor to boot. We do charge Y200 a song, but if you buy 10 we give 2 for free! There is a cover including your first drink, but drinks are in the Y500-Y600 range. Food is available also.

We open at 8 PM friday and sat and we have a parking lot for parking. Give me a call at xxx or check out our web site at http://www.clubhankrumi.com or check out archives at japan update for an article on our club a few months ago.

We love to see you. groups are better where you can sit and enjoy the tunes. We can call taxi's for your return or daiko service to get your car back home. And we have no girls asking for drinks either. just a friendly family owned Karaoke Club!

Boy Hank...that reads like an advertisement to me...what do you think? Please do not advertise on the forums!

dk
08-20-2007, 10:39 AM
Meh, it's on topic, which is why I didn't do anything with it. This whole thread is kind of an advertisement... The only difference is the others don't own the bars they're writing about. In this case, I say we let this one stay, but we can discuss it more in the admin/mod forum if you want.

You're right though. It's an advertisement. If anything, it's my inconsistancy. I just didn't think it'd be fair to allow everyone else to post a karaoke spot except for the actual owner of a karaoke bar.

Now, if he had made his own thread somewhere like that housing agency person did, that'd be different.

As an innocent bystander (non-moderator), I think it is actually good info other then the call me if you have questions part. Everything else is just good info to know if you are looking for a place to hang out, even the website which is very helpful to see it.

Gomen to all. Just get on a runaway train sometimes. I guess it would be better to put a add on line. Just that i saw the question and off i went. Thanks for the warning. But when i saw DJ's and musicians network here, i guess it was free reins to advertise!?

Hank...no problem, but please in the future leave a little to the imagination!

If you are allowed to do this on here, then I would think eventually others will try to do the same thing. I really don't mind it with karaoke bars, but soon it will be 2nd rate car lots and housing companies!

Like a porn store? You can get porn in family mart and most books stores. But if you want a strictly porno store then try tokyo dvd on 23. It's a big yellow building with maid outfits in the window, easy to find. It's on the same side of the street as cocos. But be warned, there are some ****** up pornos in that place.:scared:

Well, since this thread was dredged up again...

I finally went to the karaoke cabin place over by Kadena gate 5 behind the pachinko place. It has minimal parking on the side and across the alley. They have food and drinks available as any other place. The cabin style is cute, but everyone can see into your room. I also don't recall seeing an a/c unit in the room. There is one book of songs in English. There are some songs in English in the other books, but you have to figure out how to find them. It was very affordable though. Four or us with three glasses of water for one hour on a Saturday night was Y1500.

Ok, I know this is an old thread, but I need some info please. I am in a class right now where a bunch of us want to go do Karaoke on a Thursday. I see there is a difference between Karaoke bars and houses. From what I read, we don't want to go to the karaoke bars. So, where are the Karaoke houses and what are the rules? Do we need reservations? How much? what is included? Stuff like that. If you don't have the answers, can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks

What about Big Echo in American village? Not a bad place, but you'll probably wait for a room on the weekend. I don't remember the exact prices but I want to say somewhere around 2,500 yen for an hour. You can always just go in and ask them.

This may be a dumb question, but do they serve alcoholic beverages at Big Echo? Sounds like this is the best Karaoke house in the Kadena area.
