Every day a select few people come into the office raving on about their WOW adventures from the night before. I guess I can understand how people get hooked on a game but man, people put a LOT of time into WOW. Whats so exciting about "leveling up"? That's all these people live for is to get to the next level but what happens when you get to the highest level? I really don't want to know, I'm just curious to how this game turns people into zombies.
Please, enlighten me...
It's a f'ing game, just like sim city.
I play ffxi.

Anything that's more exciting than most of what's going on around you in the real world is naturally going to get you hooked--virtual or not.

Not necessarily... I just farted and it was more exciting than what's going on around me but I'm not addicted to that fart...:scratchchin:

:edit:
But yeah, it's just a game. I don't see why people like WOW so much, but I can understand why they get addicted to it. I can get addicted to certain games. I don't know what I'll do when dialbo 3 comes out, might have to take some leave:D
I don't see why they hate it so much either. It's just a game. People enjoy it. It should be left at that.
I don't really enjoy farting. I find people who fart openly disgusting, but I don't make threads about it...

I played WoW for a while and enjoyed it much, but I up and quit so I could spend time with the newborn. From what I hear WoW is starting to die off a lot recently. The new x-pac might revive new life in the game, but I think it will lose most of its fan base in the next year or so and eventually be done.

GW's is free to play online, you just have to buy one of the campaigns. I have the box set and it was $48. That is three of the campaigns. But there is no monthly charge.
but i would wait...i think GW's 2 is coming out soon.

It is an addictive game. You should see how many people visit addictinggames.com More people are on that website then on WoW servers per the USA.
Like dk said, if it takes your mind off of what is going on around you, you'll get hooked. You can't use a fart as an example, try alcohol. :)

I try to avoid farting cause I hate the feeling of dirty underwear and itchy assholes, just me though.
AS for WOW, where's the option for "have no idea what it is", I assume a game, and I shouldn't even comment since I don't know but it's a boring Friday mmorning!

My husband and I play WoW and we really enjoy playing I would not say we are addicted though LOL. Actually I used to hate him playing the damn game and get pretty shitty about how much time he spent on there but he asked me to try it for a couple of weeks and I did and found that I really enjoyed the game. We only play three days a week once the kids have gone to bed and have to be off by 11pm. There is usually nothing ever on AFN so it is something to do in the evening and we get to chat with our friends on there also. One thing we will not be doing is when the new expansioon pack comes out I think on the 3rd of Nov is waiting in line before the BX opens to buy it, no way are we gonna do that. We will get it once the mad rush has died down. I sure am not gonna wait in a line and fight people to get one of the shelve for any damn game LMAO. But I am sure they will be plenty of people who will :barf:

I think its dumb to pay $50 for a game and keep paying $15 to play every month. It's annoying when two WoW players find each other and blab about their levels and other WoW paraphernalia.
All of that wizardry crap is dumb to me. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, WoW. Same goes for fantasy football.

Well I don't think it's too dumb to pay $15 a month if you enjoy playing, do what makes you happy ya know, but some people I know play in ALL of their free time?? To each is own I guess.
I don't HATE the game, I've just never been addicted to something SO much that I spend all of my free time doing it. As far as when 2 WOW players meet and start to talk, it's kind of funny to listen to them because I have no idea what they are talking about and they get SO excited and passionate about this fantasy world they play in. As far as fantasy football goes, if there's money on the line I can understand someone spending a lot of their free time on it. Plus, the players in their team are REAL people...
Whatever, I'm not trying offend any PC gamers, just trying to get some insight into the situation.

Well the thing with these online game is, your paying for the updates and ability to play online with so many people. Yes I know games like Halo can be played online, but they dont get updated monthly with new abilities, items, and such. I actually saved money playing FFXI while living in the barracks, with my friends from back home.

I've got a friend who did that. He's married but out here alone and wanted to save money for when he got back to the states. All he does is sit in his room and play WOW all day. I must say, he has saved quite a lot of mula...

I played an online rpg game when I was stateside, but it was text based like a chat box with a separate game dice roller for actual power use and stuff. I never got the hang of the video game style rpg. I also don't think it's right to charge people for an online game they've already paid for once to get. It's quite a racket. I do understand why people here would get into it though. There's not much to do for the shy, geeky types here.

At first I slammed people for playing. Then I played some but didn't get hooked and found it fun. I just do not see the reason to vilify someone over their hobby when everyone has a hobby that is seen as childish or dumb. Like fantasy football, it can be seen as dungeons and dragon for jocks.

There was a guy in my old unit who took 2 weeks of leave just to sit in his barracks and play WOW. I'm pretty sure he's still single.
I play every now and then (like once a month)... I renewed my subscription for 3 more months a few weeks ago, but I don't think I'll be renewing it again. It's just too expensive and the private servers I tried are all really glitchy and even more boring that the real servers.

WoW is kind of a touchy subject with me. I used to swear I'd never touch it because it looks SO DAMN STUPID!!! Seriously. The art style sucks. >.<
But you know what, I got tired of wanting to drown myself in the ocean every Sunday morning when my Perma CoP group for FFXI signed on and we bashed our brains against a wall, over and over and over.
I was sick of devoting so much time to FFXI, where it used to be impossible to level without a full party (I hear they're making some sort of level sync and higher exp for small parties/solo?--I dunno hubby keeps talking about going back and he still cruises alla forums).
My kindly neighbor downstairs wanted me to start a WoW character with her one night while our husbands were at work...and I liked it.
It's SO EASY. Nice way to just spend like 45 minutes of your day while you're waiting for the cupcakes to bake. And it's a good way to make/keep in touch with friends. My husband and I even have a couple duo characters.
But we don't play all that often. Maybe 3 times a week, tops, depending on other plans/work schedules.
I can't wait for Aion.
Oh and a friend offered me a week long warhammer beta key, but I refused. Apparently it's just like WoW except you get exp for pvp :D
Aion aion aion! <3
Another thing: It annoys the crap out of me when people assume video games are only for children. I honestly don't see the difference between sitting in front of your computer/tv playing a game and sitting in front of your tv every night and watching survivor/who wants to be a millionaire/american idol/insert another stupid show here :P. (I kinda like game shows though, especially trivia ones >.>)
At least gamers are building "hand eye coordination" hahaha.
And I don't know any children who could beat Rondo of Swords for DS. I'm a "grown" woman and it's IMPOSSIBLE. XD
Sorry I get kinda windy. o.O
CoP really was a big pain in the ass. :D

Fortunately, we made it all the way to the very end, even beating Bahamnut. Then I quit for a year. Started playing again, but only soloing and doing Limbus one day a year. Don't have time for more than that. But I still have all my good gear. :D

I tried the two week trial that came with another game I bought. I wanted to see what the fuss was about.
My verdict: Games that you can't win piss me off. Go gather this, sell that. Bring back this rock to this guy, he'll give you a shirt that you need to fight that guy. Reminded me of being in the Marines.

After hearing my co-workers talk about WOW so much I find myself trying to listen in to the conversations. I will never actually play the game myself though (not that there's anything wrong with that), my current audio production hobby takes up all my free time...

Dont worry, most of the 13 year olds suck at wow...they spend all their time doing the things I would deem 'silly' so they dont get all the best gear.
If you decide to give it a try PM me and I can send you a free trial and help you out etc.

I started playing to pass the time cheaply during my year seperation from the family here in Korea. I planned on quitting before I left here (this month), but I grew bored of it about 2 months back and shut off the account. It helped pass the time a lot, though, I'm glad i did it; it kept me from going downtown, getting myself into trouble for most of my tour here.
I gotta say i find it hilarious when people would bitch about all the WoW players here...and then bitch that they have nothing to do, AFN sucks, etc. etc. "but WoW is for geeks, Im not doing that! Let me find a wall to stare at for the next 3 hours..."
Right. That's how I felt about FFXI when I played all the time. At least I was saving a ton of money. Now I blow through my paycheck like it's water in the desert...
Maybe I should make a WoW account. lol.
