First it was Skyperfect, now even NTT's Marriage with them is pissin me off.
I want Hikari Fiber (TV). I requested to get 2 of the tuner boxes so I could possibly watch tv in 2 different rooms. It appears that you have to sign 2 contracts and pay DOUBLE...
This is really not good as far as I'm concerned...
Any ways around this that anybody knows?

LMAO I had this service, at first it was novel, after about six months of having to reset your box and constant reruns, it was easier and cheaper to find other sources of entertainment. I mean you can only watch jack run from terrorist so many times

I agree, It's just the basic service.
It's important that I have this service and even more so that I can watch it in 2 different rooms!

Not just a bump of the Thread... BUT............
Who uses Hikari premium?
I had it installed last week, I mean, these guys ripped out my existing Fiber and replaced it?? I don't get that, but anyway, Then they left.
The setup is silly... u HAVE to USE NTT router, they seem to be doing something in that that that you have to use it, it pisses me off actually.
My Question is, Do you still need to pay for an ISP (sunny-net OCN whomever) after installing Hikari premium? I was under the impression that the (NTT) became your ISP also!!
Please advise I would hate to be paying for 2 ISP's when I dont have to.
Cheers

I don't have sunny-net or Hikari premium but were you paying sunny-net before this?
I could never understand there pricing on why I had to pay them if NTT is ISP.
From there website: http://www.sunny-net.ne.jp/?p=internet
Maybe someone else knows.

Can't you through your connections choose which ISP you are going to use?
I have Fiber with NTT and they are my provider as well.

Sounds about right. You should have received the information though in the packet that they send with the router and a copy of your contract.
I have an email address with them but I never took the time to check it out. Windows XP and Vista would probably have automatically detected the settings and hooked you right up.
Go to your internet options and check your lan settings if it has automatically detect settings checked then you are probably set with NTT.
Also wouldnt sunny.net show up in the connections as well?

The only reason to use sunny net or any of the other 3 comapnies is as a go between. Just call NTT yourself. If you cannot speak japanese the english free dail number is 0120-364-463. NTT is not an isp they just supply the fiber line you still need an isp such as OCN, Dion or Pla La. I would recommend OCN. Your total monthly bill should be about 7,300 yen per month.

According to Speedtest NTT is the fastest provider in Naha, but I haven't been too pleased with them. Actual speed is mediocre and the whole service often goes down on weekend mornings. A call to them gets it fixed but it's a nuisance. Muku - do you have any problems?

Muku...
Thanks for your advice on PC/internet set-up, even though I didn't need that, I'm well qualified to figure out settings!! :)
I finally got Hikari fiber (premium). The only reason was to get Hikari TV.
Anyway, Since switching, I have noriced that my internet is slower than using B-Flets (also with NTT).
They actually swapped out my Fiber (on the street) and my ODU. I shall do some research to find out why I'm getting slower speeds...
BTW, It's still fine, I just see a noticeable slow down in internet speed, especially while downloading.

Does your fiber come with a ctu and router or a single fiber modem? Are you using wireless? Im out in the field working with NTT construction crew everyday. Not saying i know it all but i may have an answer or two.

I have 3 boxes that NTT installed. Yes, I do use wireless but even with a direct LAN connection I only get about 4500 kbps up and down. I am about 2 kms from the switch but that shouldn't make any difference with fiber???

Im not sure what speed test you are using. I use speedtest .net you should be at about 12,817 download and 5,274 up. If you are using wireless and seeing a decrease in speed with fiber try setting the mtu to manual and setting it to 1454. I believe the third box is your ip phone.

Yes, with Speedtest.net I only get about 4500 both up and down using wired LAN. So what might be wrong?
What is mtu?
Thanks
I'm in Chatan and Speedtest gave me 10,282 down and 1,243 up. I use NTT and am for the most part satisfied.

The default mtu in XP is 1480. Is the small change worth the effort?

mtu setting for sure makes a difference. But i was talking about changing the mtu in your wireless router. The easy thing to do is call NTT and ask them what your speed should be and then tell them its only about 4,500 up and down. Dont tell them what your speed is first. Let them tell you what it should be. Take your computer to a friends house and test the speed. Speed can be slow for a number of reasons anything from your computer its self to a small error in any bend radious of the fiber line. Chatan has the fastest internet connection on okinawa. But 4,500 is slow anyware.

Wkarma..
And where should I be testing to?? Yokohama?
I usually use the Yokohama server for testing. I just did a speed test and this is what I get:

OCN is my ISP. I live in an apartment, but have the house type B-Flets installed.
How's your Hikari TV working out? I was thinking about getting it if it has dual audio capability like SkyPerfect (English and Japanese). When I called NTT, they said they don't do that, but I never trust Japanese CSRs. I also looked in to the SkyPerfect over internet service, but the last I checked, it wasn't available in Okinawa.
