View Full Version : Second Life JU Members
Hello,
I'm just wondering if any other JU forum members--or anyone on Okinawa for that matter--is involved in the online experience of Second Life. You can't really call something like Second Life a game, so we'll go with online experience.
For those of you with no idea of what I'm talking about, you can find more information at www.secondlife.com (http://www.secondlife.com) and http://secondlife.reuters.com/
Second Life has sort of taken the world by storm and has been written about in a wide variety of media.
So far, I know of four other forum members involved (2 joined today). If anyone is interested in giving SL a try and decides to sign up, send a private message in-game to Winston Straaf and I'll add you to the JU Forum Friends Second Life group.
Hope to see some of you online, and interested to know of others of you who already may be involved.
Thanks for your time. :)
If you are currently part of Second Life, reply to this thread with your Second Life name. I'll then shoot you a group invite to the JU Forum Friends Second Life group.
JU: dk
Second Life: Winston Straaf
PS, if you have any difficulty with Second Life, please let me know. You may be experiencing problems I've already dealt with.

Still working to figure it out, but it appears to be quite fun. Kinda seems like a pimped out sims......but I never played sims, so I could be wrong.

Hmm, It's an American game (I'm pretty sure) so you should be able to choose "English" somewhere on it. Japanese support is a pretty recent thing.

It's fine if I use IE but if I use firefox I get japanese even if I chose english. I'll be signed up in a bit you'll have to teach me how to play.
Sure, just ask us questions. Before you get to the main SL world, you have to go through a few tutorials to learn how to walk, search, change clothes, etc, so you'll learn a little, but it takes a few days to get really comfortable. I still feel like a noob. Tali's the veteran.

It is pretty confusing at first, but is a lot of fun once you start getting the hang of it. I am still a noob, but crash coursing my way through.
Once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. It definitely has a learning curve though.

Oh cool. :) I haven't logged into SL in a while. Still got my character, but I've been playing ffxi again. I'll log into SL again when I get this POS (not Point of Sale) computer fixed.

I still never even tired FFXI. If you get the xbox version can you play with people who have the PC version?
so is it a game you have to buy?
No, it's free, and you can download it online. It's more of a glorified chat room with music and millions of people than a game, but it's interesting. Especially if you are a coder or designer because you can program objects directly in the... game...

Yep, you can play with everyone. If you join, join Quetzalcoatl and I'll help you out. Let me know if you're considering and I'll get you a world pass so you can choose your world.

Well it's only 20 bucks for the 360 so I'm considering it. Do you recommend shooting for dark knight?

Blue Mage is a ton more fun. DRK doesn't get as many invites to party, but it's worth playing with. I've got a lvl40 DRK that I haven't used in years. It was fun getting it to 40 though.
To unlock advanced jobs (DRK, BLU, PLD, etc) you have to first level a normal job (Warrior, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, etc) to 30. It really doesn't take long to do. 1-20 can sometimes fly by in a few days (one day for me, but I already have lots of low level gear available). 20-30 can also normally take just a few days. I know a guy right now who got his DRK to 40 just on the free one-month trial, so it's definitely possible.
I can give you lots of pointers if you join and help out with quests as well to speed things up for you. :) If you join, I recommend you do this:
Solo your White Mage to lvl10 and party to lvl15 or 20
Unlock your subjobs (quest, I'll solo it for you)
Solo whatever job you want to take to 30 with a White Mage subjob so you can cure yourself (I'll explain it better if you join)
Unlock the advanced jobs you want to try (I'll help you with them)
It can be a pain in the butt with a lot of down-time if you don't have a mage job to cure yourself in the low levels, which is why I recommend first leveling White Mage, but Red Mage will also have the same effect.
Does the PC version have a free trial? And can you ride chocobos?

You can ride chocobos after lvl 20, I believe. The PC version has a free trial. Might even be online for download.
You can even raise your own chocobo, but that got boring. Not my thing, but a lot of people do it.

WARK! Sounds awesome! I'll have to look for it later tonight.

I've been playing it since 2004 and I still love it. So much to do on it, you can never really get completely bored unless you let yourself. Some activities aren't for everyone though.

Well if you and dk start a party then I might have to spend the twenty bucks and buy it for 360. I wouldn't get it until next weekend though:D.
