have been drinking awamori out of a blue glass bottle, and have been getting the meanest hangovers...

have not had bad hang overs from the awamori in the standard brown bottles, which i drank from before........is the awamori in preety containers of poorer quality then the standard brown bottles.

also purchased a bottle with gold flakes floating inside, and a shisa face bottle (green in color)...should i avoid drinking these too?.....

Generally speaking the older the awamori, the better it will be. The bottle should have little or nor relevance. Drinking awamori with water or sparkling water is the best way to avoid hangovers. Drinking awamori with any sugared drinks is imho a recipe for disaster, due to the way the body metabolizes congeners and complex carbohydrates:

"Reduce the amount of sugar you consume with your alcohol. The forced metabolism of sugar AND alcohol by your body will accelerate the depletion of B vitamins and make the hangover worse."

Although I tend to be a little flakey myself, I have no idea as to flakes in awamori - I would strain out the gold flakes and save them for the coming economic recession.

I usually save this sort of treatment for the evening after. If two advil and a ton of water doesn't cure the hangover, I'm left with no choice but to throw down three more beers.

Awamori and water FTW:thumbup:. Don't drink it that much, but it's nice every now and then. Last time was once I was on miyako island, doing some ohtori:barf:. I slept the majority of the next day.

I'm an Awamori lush and I usually have bad hangovers no matter what kind due to my inability to use the Z-Z-1-3 method when drinking this particular beverage. If you can stomach it, a Red Eye (half beer, half Clamato juice) works nice for a hangover.

Also after reading this yesterday, I had a dream involving Awamori that looked like GoldSchlager last night.

My favorite is White Zampa with water or Sanpincha tea. But Zampa black is cheaper.

I am rather surprised that you are getting hangovers from awamori, even the "cheap" stuff.

For myself I usually get the shits the next day because of the large amounts of water that I drink it mixed with.

Do you get the same kind of hangovers drinking Jack or something similar? Because technically speaking awamori is along the same lines as a whiskey whereas Japanese Sake is similar to wine.

I've had lack of hangovers drinking Awamori and Sunkist. But then again, I try to stay somewhat buzzed all the time, so I really dont get to the hangover point.

I vaquely remember almost having a hangover once in 1964, when I almost sobered up!

That sounds as delicious as Makers Mark and "red" Kool-aid:crying:
The only time I get a headache from drinking Shimazake is when I drink other spirits too. I normally start with a couple Nama biru to wet the whistle and then move on to whatever bottle of Uchinanchu firewater the table wants to violate!

Stay away from Tequila and other hard liquors when drinking Shimazake because your head will hate you the next day!!

The best awamori is Kikunotsuyu VIP Standard or GOLD. Kiku brown is not much better than Zanpa, and once you have some crystal clear awamori, you will never drink that Gate 2 swill again. I drink mine on the rocks, baby.

When you are ready to graduate from that, I'll tell you about Kuon.

Not sure of the quality without the names of the awamori BUT... a bowl of soba will fix up the hangover pretty good, even the premade ones sold in supers with the bag of broth in the bowl.

I'll have to say some of the strangest nights I've had have been from drinking that wonderfull liquid. the way i like to go about it is with water and a touch of lime (taste kinda like mike and ikes) or a little tonic but the water method is the best for me little to no hang over because your not as dehydrated. any way i do love the stuff even if i wake up next to some nice lady 10-15 years older than me. :first:
