Hello folks, Uchinamuku is my handle, meaning in the local Okinawan dialect that my wife is Uchinanchu, or Okinawan.
Been living here for almost more years than I can remember.
Just thought to stop in here, say hi, and look forward to posting a message or two when I have the time.
Cheers to all. http://www.jref.com/forum/images/smilies/pcheers1.gif

Just had a couple of questions here - What does 'Muku' just by itself mean?
I thought it meant to 'peel'.
And you said 'Uchina muku' means that your wife is Okinawan, but I thought somewhere you said it meant, to be living among us but one of us.
Just curious.

Muku means by itself the husband of a Japanese/Okinawan wife living with the wifes family. The spelling actually should be Mukuu. :D Oh it also means son in law, not necessarily living together either.
There is a "double" meaning for the handle as well, first in Hogen like I wrote here, and a shortened version or contraction for a "position" as well :D
to be living among us but one of us
I dont quite follow what you are asking here...sorry.

Sorry, it meant to read 'to be living amongst Okinawans but not one of them'.
But maybe it was not you who said that, my mistake.

So ... do you speak Okinawan language?:-|

Actually I understand more than I can speak, however there are so many different dialects to hogen that I have a better time with "mainlan" hogen than any of the outer lying islands.
