Hey everyone I am new one here and newish to the island. I am looking into next year taking the family for a trip to Tokyo and doing Disneyland and that with the kids. I was just wondering those of you that have done that from here was it better to do it through the base or a travel agent off base. Many thanks for any info. :grin1:

Can't say for Okinawa, but at Yokota, it's kind of a "no brainer"...the BASE has the best deals hands-down. Get the "E" tickets, and be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait, for almost any of the more popular rides. Upside is that food there is good AND cheap. Some folks take picnic lunches anyway, and they ARE allowed. It's MUCH better and more fun if you can possibly go during the week, except when there is a Japanese holiday (check your calendar).

Oki alumni - Just some clarification on what you said above: Do you mean buy a ticket through some agency on Yokota or go on one of their tours to Disneyland?
Just curious because my wife emailed services there and they said they don't sell discounted tickets. Maybe the USO?

if you go during the off season it isn't really so bad. i had to wait no more than 10 to 15 minutes per ride.

I am going to Tokyo in two weeks. Going to see an MMA event there called DREAM 6. Cant wait to see my fav fighter but....
My girl and I are planning to hit up Tokyo Disney but all I really want to do is go to Universal studios in Osaka. The tix to take a train there are $125 each way. Is cheaper to just get a car?
Also, what are some exciting things I "have" to see while Im there?

See if JR (japan railway) has a package deal. They often offer package deals where you can take the shinkensen for cheap. My wife and I were in tokyo thsi just past june. We got a package deal from JR to Kyoto. It was about $320 dollars for round trip tickets for the both of us to and from Kyoto.
Oh and Kyoto was awesome:thumbup:

Well I would only be in osaka for one day, I don't even think it would be worth it since Kyoto is right below osaka. Its most likely about the same price.

See P-Chan's answer. I'm here just outside Yokota AB, and without looking it up, the train is probably much cheaper than renting a car and paying all the tolls there and back. A call to the Yujo (MWR) Rec Center at 225-7553 (that's the office), should get you some good info. Depending on how much time you'll be in the area, the Yujo should also be able to provide you with MORE information and PROBABLY some good "military rate" tickets.
