From August 19th through December 26th the Okinawa Expressway will be under construction from Kin to Ginoza exits, or 8 and 9.
Traffic will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes in this area. Speeds through the area will be reduced to 50 with slower speeds in the merge area.
This construction is due to deterioration of the 32 year old bridge between these two exits.
I always kinda got nervous going over that bridge.....

Thanks for the info. I prefer to take 58 because the scenery in onna is prettier than that of the expressway. But it's nice to take the expressway if I'm in a hurry.

Yup! Got the locals, got mainlanders retiring here, got tourists renting cars, and and got the military and their dependents. Everyone drives. Only gonna get worse. What should be done?

Facetious comment from one living on the Kanto. Thing is, at times the Oki expressway does get busy and it's hard to even run the speed limit.
Also, those who plan to be somewhere at a specific time will be delayed...lots of people commuting to work and using that during the week.

But what of OT's comment, Mr. Hat? Traffic congestion is bad island-wide. It looks like it will only get worse. What could/should be done?

He was commenting that the traffic "isn't" bad on the Expressway Mr. Eel. Did I misspell "fa see shus?" lol..
We already beat up the crowded car issues in another thread.

Naw, that was a different discussion. Post-war mistakes in reconstruction. This is about the present and future, and action to be taken so that Okinawa isn't in a state of permanent gridlock.
Monorail stretched from where it is now to Nago would be nice.....
But that will never happen
Unless Okinawa became an American territory

You are aware that Hawaii has voted down monorail projects in the past. They have their own gridlock problems. What makes you think Americans could solve the problem any better?

And the rail system through Tokyo and it's suburbs- the entire plain is excellent given it's age and required adaptations.
Has nothing to do with anything other than what the GOJ decides it wants to do. It's all about tourism here. Tourists fly in, rent cars. No problem.
The Okinawa Gov has less money in it's coffers than I do.
Exactly, money. We, Americans, love to spend money right (even if we don't have it)? Okinawans don't, obviously...
