I ask because I'm moving from Sunabe to Awase and the wife and I are debating which Internet/Phone company to use, which moving company is better, and so on. if anyone who's moved around the island can provide some examples of the "best" of certain services (I have no specifics I'm just tired of going with places cause the competitor is located 56km away from where we are... wifes fault).

Both my phone and internet are NTT OCN. Never had a problem with either of them. The internet is fiber so it's fast, and costs around 6,500 yen a month. The phone is 500 yen a month, unless I call home. But my phoen bill has yet to break 1,000 yen a month.
So I won't see you walking your puppies in baba park anymore?

I'm always perplexed when someone on the internet knows who I am.... when did you see me and my heathen mutts?

I don't know about best, but I know with what we used and were satisfied.
For movers, we used Budget. They padded everything glass and all the wood furniture. They charge by weight.
For internet service, we use NTT, but I think it's a default based on the area or building wiring. I'm not sure how that worked out.

I used to work with your wife. Saw you a couple nights ago, after we said what's up you were playing on the slide with your dogs:first:. Found that funny because I do the same thing with my dog. I think he's actually starting to look forward to going down the slide once I walk him at night.

0039 is good enough for me. I don't call the US that often anyway.
I second NTT OCN. I'm using that in my apartment and it's blazing fast, but they take forever to actually come out and install it (took almost 2 months for us so I just leeched some wireless to ease my internet withdrawals). They're getting ready to start 30GB upload caps though. That's 30GB per DAY. If anyone's using 30GB per day, they deserve to get cut off anyway (I use that in about a month).
For phone, I'm using VoIP (basically an internet phone. bought a converter box off Amazon and picked up a regular phone from the PX). I'm with HyperDog Digital and I pay $20 a month for unlimited calling to the US and I have a North Carolina number that's local for my mom to call. Works pretty good for me. It's no different than having a regular phone hooked up.
For TV service, I was just going to download everything off Xbox Live, but the stupid TV/Movie companies won't let Microsoft let me download them here (It's amazing how much is blocked out on Xbox Live). It's mind numbingly dumb. So, I just torrent everything or watch whatever is free over the air (built a MythTV box to schedule One Piece and SMAPXSMAP recordings for my wife). I've heard the satellite service is good though (SkyPerfect I think). They have several US TV stations that are broadcast in both English and Japanese. I don't care much for AFN...the "commercials" make me want to punch my TV.

There is a great discussion about which TV, Phone and Internet service to use off-base. HERE YOU GO (http://www.okinawahai.com/my_weblog/2008/07/i-want-my-afn-s.html).
And also a shorter discussion on moving companies on island is HERE (http://www.okinawahai.com/my_weblog/2008/01/professional-mo.html).
Good luck in your move!

30 GB limit a DAY?!? why even bother with a limit?
I too torrent all my tv shows, I haven't had a television plugged in since 2oo1 for the most part, yet I see everything with ease except for live events (sports) which I need to go to a bar or a friend's place with AFN.
Here in Iraq, the daily download limit is 200 MBits so you can download just about 85% of one episode of say Weeds or less than a 1/3 of one movie per day.
Luckily, they keep me quite bust here and there are plenty of the local shops here that sell any movies and tv shows you need...

NTT OCN is great!
Whatever you do, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go to SunnyNet, they are horrible. First they lied to me and said that my building didn't have fiber and so I had to go with an ADSL modem, then they cut my internet off saying that my credit card failed even though my statement reflected double charges... I can go on and on about my bad experiences with them until I finally decided to take my business elsewhere. I heard that FadTech and GLBroadband are not that good as well.
