So whenever my Batallion gets their heads out of their asses i will be getting my license and a car. I love working on cars and would do it all day everyday if i had the money to support it.

Who else here is infatuated with cars?

What do you drive?

Where do the car people hangout?

I'm trying to get a suburu impreza turbo. Trying to stay away from the typical american driving a POS skyline or silva or something like that. Also unlike most people here i can drive.

Well i just wanted to talk about cars so anything goes here as long as its about cars.

PS - I'll work on other peoples cars to. My labor is always free, i just love turning wrenches. Donations in the form of beer are always accepted. Shoot me a PM.

So true! I have a prelude and I had that thing looking nice for a while. But then the paint started to chip because the douche who had it before me didn't wash or wax it ever! He also drove it around like he was speed racer, which I didn't know once I first bought the car. Which would explain why the cam seal went after I had been driving it for only a month.

And why should they. My co-worker hasn't changed the oil in his car for about 2 years. lol

I like making my car look nice.

I never changed the oil in my car the three years here before getting married. I figured, I have to JCI the car every two years, let them do it for me then. I don't really wash my car either. I wait for a good rain and then drive to the store. :p

every 2 years is a bit long for oils changes... i believe its 6 months or 6000 miles... whatever that is in km. i just think a car is a very good representation of how a person is. If your car looks like it hasn't been cleaned inside and out in 2 years then i think that represents you as unorganized/not caring individual. but if i see someone whos car is well kept it shows me that he has pride in his belongings and cares about it. it just a little pet pieve of mine.

Lots of car guys here dude. I have a lot of experience with Toyotas (4AGE and 1JZ) and have owned some Skylines.

I realize that everyone has a Skyline so they lost their cool points, but don't loose sight of the fact that they are very quick cars and will do anything that WRX will on the street.

As far as driving, I have been involved in SCCA Auto Cross and NHRA Drag Racing. I crewed on both alky and pro mod cars. Haven't driven faster than nine seconds myself however.

Other than that I have aboout 35 years of licensed driving experience, zero video game driving experience, have frame-up rebuilt three cars and numerous bikes.

Now my interests lay elsewhere, however I think it would be cool to test drive the new Challenger, as I grew up in the 70's and drove all sorts of muscle cars before coming here forever in 1978.

Asshat you sound like you've got quite a bit of experience. I'm not set on the scooby, i've just never played with a boxer engine before so figured why not. i know there are plenty of nice skylines. i just don't like the poor image sofa status people give them.

Well, I do have a couple of fuel injection system wiring harnesses memorized. Really though, working on race engines is SO much more fun. Imagine having the ability to remove and replace a motor without having to tear the dash apart. lol....

Funny you mention that I just witnessed one yesterday almost take out an ambulance on 58. The idiot was total oblivious to the fact that why the other 2 lanes were stopped. :cursing:

I thought you had stated earlier that the reason your car started looking like crap, was due to the bastages who live in your apartment.:scratchchin:

I am very much into cars but just can't get into the cars here. I love older American cars(Chevy's mainly). I had a 72 Camaro, 64 Chevy Truck, 81 Camaro Z28, 72 Chevy truck, just sold a 78 Malibu with a stroker motor and had a 2002 Camaro Z28 with lots of mods. I miss the hell out of the last 2 cars. Back in the states I currently have a 94 Thunderbird with the 4.6 V8. Got into offroading a little bit too with some older chevy trucks. My next purchase is looking like a 59 Apache(crossing my fingers) but before I die I want to own and build a 1970 Chevelle SS. When I first got here I had a Subaru WRX(hatchback)that was turbocharged, it wasn't the STI though. I liked it but it got TERRIBLE gas mileage and too small for me, my daughter and my dog. I was kinda back and forth on the Subaru's being All Wheel drive. Good for some things but takes the fun out of some others :) Also expensive to mod. I like the RX7's a lot. Very light cars that are easily modded and RWD. Look like Mini-Vipers... I do most of my own work on my cars. I love to work on cars

The dishonest bastards in my apartment put the dent and scratch in my car. But the paint started chipping about 6 months ago. Only years of not washing and waxing the car will do that.

I'm pretty good with cars myself. I was a previous E36 M3 owner before I came to okinawa and that was taken apart and put back together. now I'm the proud owner of an EVO I GSR. first time i've had an awd turbo but im starting to like it. im taking it apart as well and rebuilding it the way it should be.

timbwhite
07-31-2008, 11:30 PM
oh i forgot to say that i would take any evo as well. I used to have an eclipse gsx in the states that i had making over 350 hp that i built myself in my garage. I know the 4g63 engine top to bottom. would love to get my hands on one, but they seem to be rather pricey here. i'm not looking to dump my savings (which isn't much mind you) into a car.

I'm totally into cars also......it's at the "needs professional help" point. I've got a 2004 SRT-4 here in the states and my son (19) turbo'd his S-14 KA24DE running about 9 psi of boost on a bone-stock, over-100,000 mile engine with 9.5 to 1 compression. He's already beaten my time (my SRT is stock) with his 13.75 @105 mph time. Once I pay off the SRT, I'll probably start on some upgrades....can't afford to do both.

*Oh yeah....I've also got a couple of '67 Barracudas, a '69 Dart destined to be a 440/4-speed, a '65 turbo corvair and a '53 Henry J that is gonna be a gasser for the street.....oh, yeah, last week I bought a corvair sand rail with a freshly rebuilt hi-perf 'vair motor with zero miles for dirt cheap*

If any of ya'll ever need anything from "over here" just holler.

i'm a big fan of the subaru wrx sti and wrc racing. really like the 2003 model.

i drive a integra/rsx and it is a good car, with good gas mileage, and dosent break down...it is a honda afterall..

but it is not a wrx... which is imho a beast of a car.:)

wrc rocks...go atkinson and soldberg!!

Which I've always found to be retarded, most people only keep a car few years in the states and don't want to drive a POS there, but do it here at the drop of a hat. You can drive a nice car here for relatively little money so why not do it?

Cool, I used to crew on V.Gaines pro stocker, but I've never driven on the strip. I'm driving a 98 Accord SiR that I picked up at Auto Shop Frendy by the Mos Burger on Legion gate rd (85) and gate 2 street.:thumbup1:

Go to a book store or Family Mart/CoCo/Lawson and pick up a Cross Roads and/or Carciao, they're like the Auto Trader for the local lots, much beet vehicles to be found on the non American lots.

On my way to Kadena from Naha I passed a car lot that just had older American hotrods. Does anyone know this place? They had 70's Corvettes and some Camaro's I believe. I can't remember exactly where it is.

I love cars. I had the tuning bug when I lived on Okinawa. I haven't had many fun cars since coming back to the states though. I had a Nissan 350Z when they first came out, but didn't do any mods. That was a pretty fun car.

I currently drive a Lexus IS350. It's my compromise between comfort & fun. Four doors makes it easy to take the kids along if needed, and I actually prefer the 6 speed auto tranny for commuting in the shitty DC area traffic. It's got decent power too.

I've done a couple of minor mods (intake, exhaust), but unfortunately, there's not much in the way of HP gains with this car.

Was it on the left side of 58 (going south). If so, I know the place you speak of, but I don't know the name. I believe it's in ginowan city IIRC.

You can take the running gear, interior, suspension, etc however and ship it back. Lots of people do that.

thanks for the info about carciao and cross roads. I used the info this weekend and found my fiance a new car since hers got rearended a little while ago. Found a really nice and really cheap Honda Capa. 250,000 yen. i was rather amazed when i saw it. Everything else we had looked at in that range had obviously been in acidents, was falling apart, dirty, or just an all out POS.

You've gotta buy a ratty old ride that somebody else dropped a ton o' dough into.......maybe it's been raced to within an inch of it's life, but WTF......it might have a few oil leaks here & there that need to be fixed......that's good training for you and gaskets & seals are actually cheap!.......just the labor's a killer. So get hot!

Here's a video of a '71 Nissan Skyline GTR.......this exhaust note could serve as a lullaby to me........it's just beautiful music baby.
