So I haven't had any raw oysters for a long time since I left the states. I love to eat raw oysters!! I usually go eat raw oysters with my friends at hooters...we order like 2 or so dozen and just eat them and have like a pitcher of beer with them. Anyone know of a restaurant or place I can get some raw oysters? Ughhh...it tastes soo good!! Let me know if you do. Thanks.

Hmm, this sounds like something I might also want to try. I never developed a liking for oysters, but sounds like it'd go good with beer.

My sister used to just eat them right off the rocks when we were kids. My brother would bust open their shells and my sister would eat them on the spot.

Hopefully someone knows of a good restaurant. I don't feel like eating anything right off a rock.

I like the oysters with the marinara sauce and lots of lemon squeezed on. I didn't think I'd like eating it when I first saw it...then of course after a few of them made for me with the sauce and lemon squeezed on top of it...it was soo good. So everytime I'd eat it when I'd go to hooter's. And the fact of it making me horny...hahah...lol. jk.

Usually, if I don't like something or think I'll like something I need it prepared really well for me. Even if I've had bad experiences in the past with it, if it's done PERFECTLY even once, it tends to stick with me. I was that way with fish, escargot, lobster, and crab (I can't believe I didn't like these before) and I'm hoping that if I ever get a chance to have awesome oysters it'll be the same.

And lol @ horny. hahahaha. We should have a big JU forums oyster party. I can see that getting out of hand. :D

Oysters are only in season in the R months. In winter, some Izakaya has raw oysters.

I have been to so many restaurants here, I have been trying to think where they serve raw oysters..

There is a restaurant in Ginowan (I think) its called Steak and Seafood. I thought the barrel restaurant did, hmm but thats what I get for going home last month. I can't remember if Chinuman does.

But I do know that Sam's by the Sea has raw oysters for 850 yen! It includes 2 dipping sauces and lemon wedges.

I will go thru my 160 menus I have on the Japanese restaurants here and let you know!

The Viking yakiniku use to have them, but I haven't been there for awhile to see if they have them.

Boheme Yakiniku (?) last time I was there they had them

My husband usually buys them at San A or Jusco @ 50% off or fisherman's warf.

Mmmmmmmmmm I love eating oysters off the rock. I found an oyster bed on an island near my place but it gets tiring after a while.

Dang. If I had $50,000 to invest in a cool Raw Bar, I'd drop it in a heartbeat. I think what I may have to do, is just get a few bushels of Oysters and Clams, rent a few kegs from base, find some Oyster Shuckers and pitchers and some metal pails, and just have a Raw Oyster & Clam Bake at the house.

It's sad that they do not have more oysters here. It's be nice to pick up a bucket of both oysters and shrimp on ice, then sit on the beach with some beer, feet in the water, butt in a chair, and chow.

I'm all for the horseradish and lemon for my oysters. Extra "horsey" cocktail sauce works too.

Awww, I sooo want some oysters now! Add a little hot sauce, maybe a buttered cracker, omg! Oh, and don't forget the beer!

Am I the only one thinking yuck??

I can eat oysters that have been cooked on the grill, that's the only way I could stomach the notion. With some shoyu, those are good.

Oysters can be purchased at local grocery stores but those would be packaged and used for other dishes and would most definitely need to be cooked before eaten.

Raw oysters are many times available at higher end sushi bars and most shelled oysters here in Okinawa come from various locations in mainland.

They are not cheap either, one oyster on the half shell can cost upwards off 800. I enjoy them too but they are so expensive that to me anyway they are a delicacy for me.:crying:

If you ever get to mainland you could try this place....Grand Central Oyster Bar (http://www.oysterbartokyo.com/index.html) and here is a link to their menu (http://www.oysterbartokyo.com/menu/shinagawa/grandmenu.pdf)

Expensive indeed... :crying:

Thank you for the heads up on the Bar mainland though. We are trying to make it there within the next 2 years...

Clams casino would be lovely as well now that I took a better gander at the menu. ::yum::

We had a bar (Bubba's Road House)that served crawdads, oysters, and shrimp by the pail on ice. From what I remember, prices were reasonable too. I wasn't a fan of crawdads.

That's surprising since most places here only have them during a certain season and I was told that season ended a while back. Can't remember the dates. But I wish they had them year round like the states.

jett city hamby town. Went there today and had 5 oysters on the half shell @ 350y a piece, salsa and chips, guac and chipz, a coke and 4 fresh strawberry smoothies. The 2 guys working were super nice. All in all i spent 50 bucks but I fed me, my wife and 4 kiddos. Not bad....also, raw oysters are only on the dinner menu but they had already picked them up for the day (it was around 2 pm) so they hooked it up. Great place, great service, no wait, reasonable price. We're gonna start going every saturday.

SW, how did you hook that one up? I know in Korea that you can have family memeber express food to your house, but do they have in Japan as well? Just curious and jealous as hell that you got kaki on the half. Hope it was as good as from the bay (years ago).

Yeah, One of my buds wife's parents live in Hokkaido, they expressed it down. I introduced them to Old Bay Seasoning.....they loved it.

I've never seen an oyster bar here. Jetta in Hamby had a sign when they opened saying something about oysters. Random Izakayas and Sam's get them when in season. I forget the months, I think starting in February though maybe?

I always thought it was strange that Japan lacked oyster bars. I figured they'd be on every corner. This article discusses why they're just now popping up and also talks about seasons. http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/fg20030912rs.html

I just read that article closer and it doesn't actually specify the oyster season months. Sorry, but I think it starts in February maybe.

Early in the year (Jan, Feb....) check out the fish markets! Last year in March we were getting them at the market for 100yen a piece, and they were wonderful and big!

best place in Japan is right between Iwakuni and Hiroshima, Itskushima aka "Miyajima". Spring oyster festival here rocked. Oysters cooked, raw, on Udon, steamed, and every other way. Might need your own marinara, but they have lemon and beer. I was using a pinch of sea salt and some lemon.
