I thought I would start this post for a number of reasons. Mainly because im tired of eating the same stuff. Me and the ole lady both love to cook, but to me it seems like things are starting to taste the same. So what are you eating for dinner tonight?

Post your favorite meals, food ideas, recipes, dishes, cooking techniques etc...

maybe you could give someone or myself an idea of something good/different to try at the dinner table.

Starting off...its lausagna at my house tonite...secret ingredient...pepperoni. (i think my mom would kill me for that)..but yeah, make it however you would normally, just add pepperoni's to one of the layers...gives it a nice kick....and add lots of different cheese's.

Your Lasagna sounds good. It must be Italian night cause my wife made some Italian bread last night and one of my Mom's meatball and sauce recipes today so it's spaghetti and meatballs tonight with fresh grated Parmesan Reggiano. It's a new sauce recipe my Mom told me is real good. I had trouble believing her cause she's full Italian and it is a real simple recipe. I told her there's no way it's better than the slave over for hours with love and pork or chicken bones recipe abut she says it's as good.

I'm glad you started this thread cause now I remember I better stop pick up a nice bottle of red wine.

I love this jambalaya recipe :thumbup1: My husband eats a ton, but this recipe makes quite a bit. Next time I make it though, I'm leaving out the ham, b/c having both ham and bacon takes away from the other ingredients. I also substituted turkey sausage to make it a little healthier.

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
6 slices bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 cup chopped celery
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 onion, chopped
1/2 pound cubed cooked ham
1/2 pound cubed cooked chicken
1/2 pound cubed smoked sausage
2 (14.5 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes, with liquid
2 cups beef broth
2 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon dried thyme
2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
2 cups uncooked white rice
1/2 pound salad shrimp

DIRECTIONS
Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Add bacon, and cook until crisp. Remove bacon pieces with a slotted spoon, and set aside. Add celery, bell pepper, and onion to the bacon drippings, and cook until tender.
Add the ham, chicken and sausage to the pot, and pour in the tomatoes, beef broth and chicken broth. Season with thyme and Cajun seasoning. Bring to a boil, and add the rice. Bring to a boil, then turn the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes, until the rice is tender.
Stir in the shrimp and bacon just before serving, and heat through. If you use uncooked shrimp, let it cook for about 5 minutes before serving.

Shrimp w/ Rice...
Get shrimp (cooked or uncooked)...follow directions for the uncooked and if they are pre cooked just warm them up however you see fit...but while they are cooking spinkle Old Bay on them (make sure to hit all the little shrimp with it)...Make White Rice and just throw the shrimp over the rice...it's so easy. I like it b/c its a fast meal and (since I like shrimp) it's really tasty.

I'll be checking out your link tomorrow - I gots to retire early - been working on 2 friends' medical issues ALL DAY.

Chef John is also quite a joker (subtle sense of humor) and some of his recipes are 20 minute masterpieces - his Asian section is also, quite good.

Off of some of his recipes I developed my own American style egg foo yung, which I would attempt to send to PJ, but I don't think he's got the patience for it (NO offense, PJ)

I want some pancakes.

I call them pancakes but some people say hotcakes. Who is right and which is more politically correct?

I call 'em griddlecakes.

American or Canadian pancakes (also known as hotcakes, griddlecakes, or flapjacks in the U.S.) are Scotch pancakes which contain a raising agent, usually baking powder, and contains different proportions of eggs, flour, and milk or buttermilk, which create a thick batter. Cinnamon and sugar can be added. This batter is either ladled or poured onto a hot surface, and spreads to form a circle about ¼ or ⅓ inch (1 cm) thick. The raising agent causes bubbles to rise to the uncooked side of the pancake, at which point the pancake is ready to be flipped. These pancakes, very light in texture, are often served at breakfast topped with maple syrup, butter, peanut butter, jelly, jam, fruit or even honey.

North American pancakes can be made sweet or savory by adding ingredients such as blueberries, strawberries, cheese, bacon, bananas or chocolate chips to the batter. In addition, some recipes call for the addition of spices such as nutmeg or cinnamon, or flavoring agents such as vanilla extract. A "silver dollar" pancake refers to a pancake about 3 inches (7 cm) in diameter - these are usually served in portions of five or ten.

I used to do that, it's addictive and you just want another piece and one more and then it's gone. I truly did it like once a week for a few months. I felt like shit! Not Red Barron though, I prefer Freschetta, Stoufers, or California Pizza Kitchen, but that's another thread.

Last nights dinner was BBQ Ribs. Thawed the rubbed with Okinawan Sea Salt and Cinnamon Sugar, then steamed in a pressure cooker for 30 minutes then brushed with Hawaiian BBQ sauce. Cooked in a pan on the grill for 10 minutes to cook the sauce on.
The meat was very tender and just up off the bone. Tasty.

I know where that is, thanks. I've never been but I heard steak and lobster is the specialty there. They also have pizza? I hope it's better than Pizza House Jr's pizza, for him to rave and say it's "even better than Sbarro".

I'll probably have a typical left-over Okinawan on-base work place Thanksgiving meal w/ all the traditional American fixins along with a few Okinawan and Philipino specialties to go along with it. Well, that's been typical at the few places I've worked in Okinawa, I assumed it was island wide.

Panda express is about the best fast chinese food you can get. But nothing beats those little hole in the wall places in Chinatown just off the Dan Ryan! Papa John's is ok but I wouldn't even bother if it wasn't for the garlic butter. The best pizza is this little place IMO is called Sanfrantello's (sp) in Munster Indiana:thumbup:

Tonights dinner was Grilled London Broil. I bought a 3lb London Broil from the commisary for $5.oo. You can buy them with or without any spices. I got the one with the spices, and just added a few more of my own.

This cut of meat is best bought fresh, and grilled the same day. If you buy it then freeze it, it may toughen up. After you buy it, keep it in the fridge (thawed)until you are ready to cook. Add your spices or rub. DO NOT POKE IT OR TENDERIZE IT. You need to keep all the juices in it while cooking. Let it warm to room temp before cooking.

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o169/AshMiller1972/LB1.jpg

Get the Grill ready. Put a good pile of coals on one side of the grill, and light. Let them burn down till all the coals are white. Open the grill vents about halfway. Take the London Broil and sear it on all sides over the coals. Then place in a aluminum pan, on the non-coal side of the grill and put the lid on the grill. Cook for about 12-15 minutes on each side in the pan. DO NOT KEEP OPENING UP THE GRILL TO LOOK AT THE MEAT !! You need to need to build the heat up in the grill to get the internal temp of the meat to 145F. It is best if it is a little pink inside. Just cut a corner if you are looking for color, dont cut the center. Check the temp with thermometer if you need to do it that way, then if you wish, sear it again over the coals to get the "grill stripes on it.

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o169/AshMiller1972/LB2.jpg

Remove from grill and slice into 1/4 inch thick strips. We had it with stir fry veggies. Serve and eat.

I've never heard of 'London Broil'.............is it pig or cow??

Do they sell frozen Fish fingers at the commesary?

London Broil is a North American beef-based food dish usually made by broiling or grilling marinated flank or round steak and then cutting it against the grain into thin strips. The origin of the name is obscure, since the food is unknown in London.

Although many American butchers will label a cut of meat "London Broil", the term does not refer to a specific cut. The cut of meat traditionally used is flank steak, but top round roast/steak is also commonly used. Because the muscle fibers run the entire length of these cuts, the meat can be tough if not tenderized via pounding or massaging. Scoring, stabbing, cutting, penetrating, or otherwise mutilating the cut before sending it into the broiler results in a tougher finished product as it allows all the desirable juices to run out of the meat into the pan.

The preparation of London Broil typically involves marinating the meat for several hours followed by heating in an oven broiler or outdoor grill. In both heating methods the meat is placed approximately three inches from a direct heat source and turned several times to promote even cooking and avoid burning. It is commonly served in thin slices, cut across the grain.

Yes, I have seen frozen fish fingers at the commisary....but I prefer breading my own

Skirt steak and chorizo chopped and crumbled up then fried. Sauted onions, mushrooms, garlic, chili peppers, tomatoes and taco seasoning will be put on top of the steak and chorizo and so will salsa con queso.

Tonight will be leftovers of the above. It was AWESOME! Of course look at the ingredients and it's not surprising that it was AWESOME.

I haven't been back to Oki since 1987 but I am enjoying all the posts. I was wondering if the hotel across the street from Torii Station is still open. They had the best waki soba and spring rolls.
