I guess there are 'some' nice people on here, and I just need to IGNORE the A-HOLEZ when ever possible, so rather then admit defeat, I am going to HELP others as much I can in the following categories:
Veteran Services
Disabled Veteran topics
DOD jobs
So here are a few jobs on island that I wanted to share:
JOB #1 (http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=73684524&aid=73811565-1078&WT.mc_n=MKT000125)
JOB #2 (http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=73684971&aid=73811565-1078&WT.mc_n=MKT000125)
JOB #3 (http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=73685861&aid=73811565-1078&WT.mc_n=MKT000125)
Feel free to PM with any questions about the above areas.
Peace! :army:

First off Sargeant Okinawa, thanks for posting the links. Okay...NOW for a slight "dose" of reality. I haven't even checked the links...BUT my guess is that at LEAST two, and probably all THREE jobs will be filled with "dependent spouse preference" hires. Who the hell wants to hire a vet? They/We are over here "of our own free will", while EVERYBODY knows that dependent spouses are handcuffed to the aircraft as it departs, and not released until it hits land again. They HAVE no free will...they are FORCED to come over here. They MUST supplement their spouses' incomes. Veteran's preference? Disabled Vet? Sorry, you lose. It's now POLICY (I have copies of the paperwork from YEARS ago) that retirees and veterans (including Disabled Vets) are "discouraged" from seeking employment with the U.S. that can be filled with dependent spouses...at least for the USAF. Occasionally someone DOES "slip in the back door"...for 5 years MAX, and usually at a very low level of pay. After fighting the "system" for literally years on end...I like the phrase **** the ****'ing ******'s! Contractor work is ONE alternative and can be rewarding PLUS you (normally) don't pay Income Tax...you DO pay FICA though...watch out for those employer's retirement plans however.
Gives a whole new meaning to "The Military takes CARE of it's own!"

lol, me too. And yeah, all those jobs, (and the ones I am trying to fill) are local only, and not for JUST spouses, but anyone...SOFA is a maybe.
I can't live on GS 5/YA 01, and wouldn;t want to live on 32K.

Old Timer and AssHat,
1. I would take a GS-5 (YA-1) or even a GS-1 job as long as it paid House Hold Goods from USA to Okinawa and had 100% SOFA.
2. I could (and have) live off of GS-1 pay, I have my retirement and disability and my wife is Okinawan so she can get a job, so I would have 4 sources of income until I found a better paying job.
3. My point exactly, you are limited in the people (husbands of service members) that can interview for these jobs, and may have to settle for less then desirable.
4. IF President Clinton had NOT asked the DOD to save money, and they decided to force PCS costs DOWN TO the units, those two jobs you speak of could have been filled by someone who would give their left nut to be there.
5. With more and more military bases in Japan shrinking / moving off the island (i.e. to Guam) my chances of getting over there before the party is over is looking really "Slim to none"
6. Why does the military take young service members over there, show them the cake for a few years, then send them back and say, “Ha ha sucks to be you, You no go a back G.I. you number 1 forked G.I.!"
Peace! :army:
:scratchchin: Please anyone else want to join me in writing to our senators and congressmen about this? I have the standard letter already done up.

I PERSONALLY wish you the absolute BEST of outcome with the letters. I've written (on the same subject) a few times myself, and MY experiences have been that you'll get the standard "boiler plate" letter, AFTER they've gone through the Congress/Senate "ASSistant" to your representatives. A simple "We got your letter and we don't give a shit." response, would have been a helluva lot more honest. Ya keep voting the biatches outta office, and they're just replaced by MORE biatches!

i agree, from what i have read most of the people are good on this forum... but some of the "difficult people" seem to have worthwhile stuff to say too...so dont ever ignore/disregard them.
just read, filter, dont take things personally, and do what your are doing. it is a good thing you did sarg, in trying to help people on this forum.:thumbup1:
imho...one should try everything to meet a goal. keep plugging away, volunteer, seek the decision maker, seek interviews, listen to both good and bad, be persistant (a key thing), get a college degree ( if one dose not have one, no matter the age)..it is not that hard, and is fun to get..and remember that, no matter what anyone says about how impossible a task is.. to always use your judgment ...and never, ever just give up.:)

I can live off the salary. I'll take the job. I got many skills. My only worry is if the position comes with SOFA.

I know of plenty of local hires here in mainland who are fluent, live small, and happen to be having a very good time with a very happy multi-partner sex life......and saving $$$.

1. I would take a GS-5 (YA-1) or even a GS-1 job as long as it paid House Hold Goods from USA to Okinawa and had 100% SOFA..
So instead of paying nothing for a dependant hire, I should pay 16,000 dollars to move you here, and pay you an extra $300 a month to work for me?
2. I could (and have) live off of GS-1 pay, I have my retirement and disability and my wife is Okinawan so she can get a job, so I would have 4 sources of income until I found a better paying job..
I too lived here with that kind of income. Spouse with no income, one kid. Yep, very "doable."
3. My point exactly, you are limited in the people (husbands of service members) that can interview for these jobs, and may have to settle for less then desirable..
Let's face it. YA-1 and 2 positions are basic skill, or entry level. They are easy to fill with spouses. The ONLY way to get back here with a decent deal is to get hired filling a position that is not easily filled here.
4. IF President Clinton had NOT asked the DOD to save money, and they decided to force PCS costs DOWN TO the units, those two jobs you speak of could have been filled by someone who would give their left nut to be there..
If individual units funded positions, or even the moves and COLA for them, we'd ALL be local hires at YA-1 pay. I have to beg for money to buy shit paper and pens.
5. With more and more military bases in Japan shrinking / moving off the island (i.e. to Guam) my chances of getting over there before the party is over is looking really "Slim to none".
Lucky for you, neither government has any money either. The party may be going on for some time, and in any case, what is here will still need to be supported.
6. Why does the military take young service members over there, show them the cake for a few years, then send them back and say, “Ha ha sucks to be you, You no go a back G.I. you number 1 forked G.I.!".
Imagine the "American" child born here, raised here, living his whole life here and is suddenly told to leave because he turned 21. At least you have a home.

Yes.
I too lived here with that kind of income. Spouse with no income, one kid. Yep, very "doable."
How did you get all your stuff back to Okinawa?
Let's face it.
I face it every day in and day out, looking for a way back to Okinawa.
YA-1 and 2 positions are basic skill, or entry level. They are easy to fill with spouses. The ONLY way to get back here with a decent deal is to get hired filling a position that is not easily filled here.
And even those jobs are filled with local/dependants,
It is so sad, not just for me, but to all Disabled Veterans, or Veterans period, that the American people have downgraded the Disabled veterans to equal a tag along spouse.
If individual units funded positions, or even the moves and COLA for them, we'd ALL be local hires at YA-1 pay. I have to beg for money to buy shit paper and pens.
Wait what?
1. HQ Dept of the Army used to fund all PCS, the unit did not have to pay for anything so the commanders could just say, "YUP, I like her, lets bring her over here and have her work for us." now they have to THINK "Humm, $50,000 for a new truck, or $50,000 to bring a new civilian over here. I choose truck"
2. We all would be a YA-1? What are you talking about? Your pay comes from HQ Dept of the (Navy, Air Force, Army) Positions are rated from a desk audit review process and determination levels are computed to determine the level of work and that level of work is what sets the salary for that job. COLA etc. has nothing to do with what a GS position is rated at and gets paid. Not same pot of money at the UNIT level. So I don’t see what you are talking about when you say “All be YA-1”
Lucky for you, neither government has any money either. The party may be going on for some time, and in any case, what is here will still need to be supported.
Agree and disagree:
1. After most wars the military gets "Down sized" massively period. Google it if you need to see the facts on that, I don't need to entertain you lack of military retrograde knowledge.
2. Many units ARE staying in Japan, others are leaving, but the ones that I can effectively be hired for are falling by the wayside, fast and they fill 90% of their GS jobs with tag along spouses.
Imagine the "American" child born here, raised here, living his whole life here and is suddenly told to leave because he turned 21. At least you have a home.
I DO know two personally that are exactly what you described. Great kids who’s dad is a wonderful person and one of my best friends.
One was born just 2 years before they arrived in Okinawa, the other was born on Okinawa and both graduated from Kadena H.S. Both went to college in California and the youngest just graduated this spring. One lives in California by choice, that other (Youngest) now has a Japanese girlfriend / fiancé and they live in main land Japan. What is wrong with that?
Are you saying that born, live graduate from DODD’S schools is bad?
I don't follow you on this one, are you the 21 year old that got sent back to America?
Or are you saying that everything wonderful must come to an end?
Peace! And BTW – no new good news to report, still no new progress on getting back to Okinawa.
Peace!:crying:
