Just noticed you have section on Japan update for Movies for off base, although when I click on it, it is not working yet, I am very pleased to see it.
Wrote to update years ago asking if they could put that in, as we are not all 'military'. As for me I do read enough japanese to check it out in the japanese papers, but not everyone does.

You can actually find everything in the Japanese newspaper without being able to read Japanese at all.

Enlighten us!
Yes, you can tell by the pics. but not all of them have pics, and some of the english movies have their title in kanji(with no english title shown) or it is in very small print for which you need a magnifying glass.

I've never had a problem with it. If it is a big movie release then there will be a picture of it...especially if it is playing at Mihama. Also if it is a Hollywood release (which most people here would be looking for) the name is usually in English or Katakana...not too hard to figure out.

It is only not hard to figure out if you read katakana then.
Even some of the big name hollywood movies are written in Kanji, and if
they have been playing for a while, there will be no picture.
If you are so sure, why don't you upload a photo from the japanese newspaper so everyone can see what it looks like, do a survey and see
how many of the forum members can read it, because if I have trouble sometimes after nearly 20 years I don't think the people out there stand a chance!

Perhaps you need to change your mood to argumentative, Doc.

I really only wrote this to say how happy I was to see that there is now going to be a listing for Movies(off base) in english, saves the hassle of figuring it all out in english.
Whether you and I can read it in a japanese newspaper is irrelevant!

Who needs to be argumentative? You purposely bringing the topic up again before I respond? If I pick up a newspaper, I will gladly post the info for you. Unless something has changed, the basic info for the new releases will be legible. Of course I don't always go to movies as my schedule is usually quite hectic.

The movie listings are always in the Okinawa Times or Ryukyu Shimpo, and katakana isn't so difficult to pick up to be able to read them. If you don't know it, it's worth learning to make a stay in Japan more enjoyable.

The off-base movie section is great, but it would be better if it included the Southern Plex (the other large multiplex cinema in Okinawa)

I wish the theaters would get with the times and provide rss feeds. That'd make things a whole lot easier for a LOT of people.

Don't the cinemas here allow time listings to be found on your keitai? That's even easier than an RSS fees as you don't have to be near a home computer to get cinema time listings.

I don't know. Maybe they do. If you see one, please post a link. I'd love to try to strip the data right off it and see if I can work with it if they're unable to provide RSS. Cellphone HTML is probably pretty easy to snag data off of.

But if they'd just put out rss, even their cellphone pages could use their own rss data to stay up to date rather than maintaining two separate pages, as well as allow bloggers and neat nifty websites like JU to use their data.
