View Full Version : Making money the franchise way

If you could get a franchise from the States and bring it to Okinawa, which ones do you think would be successful?
I think Chick Filet would make a killing over here, both on base or off.

I think Target would do better than Wal-Mart....How I miss that place. That is about the only store I miss.

Let's not turn this into the places that you miss thread. Seriously think of a business that has franchises that would make money (not on base).
Another one that comes to mind is Dave and Busters. I see adults galore in the video game joints and if you can get them to buy food while they are there.......... Granted, the majority of the menu would have to be modified to fit the Japanese diet.

This is an interesting subject. I'm not sure what all you guys DO have already over there,........Quizno's?......I'm sure you already have a Subway doncha?.......I believe I heard that those are a couple of the cheapest places to open.

I agree with Hooters, they're already in Singapore, Korea and China. Old Chicago restaurant, The Cheese Cake Factory, Costco, ARBY's, Perkins & Schlotskys.

Well they tried the Hooters theme with Pitsters underneath ChiChi's, but I think they've always struggled. I think because it looks more like a bar than a restaurant. Hooters has a bar, but is has the feel of a eating place, so you can tell the old lady you're going out to eat and not be lying, technically.
BTW, that Camp Hamby Araha bar has Hooter-esque chicks bartending, and it's one of the fastest growing new bars out here. Not really MY style, but a lot of people have started going.
Edited to add:
They should bring maid bars to Okinawa. I'd go...

thats because you are unamerican. i dont know why you deny it with endless comments like this.
anyway,
HOOTERS
have a white and orange hooters shuttle running from each base, espcially the grunt bases like hansen. you could bring over a few american girls who would love the travel, and hire some local girls, that way you would attract the spectrum of males.
basically youd be a millionaire in 5 years. its full of win.
shit someone already said hooters hahahah my bad.

Unamerican because I don't like restaurants the serve regurgitated dog food? Thanks for the compliment!
On the subject of the OP (trying not to turn this thread into a "you're all gay" thread like the rest of the the threads trickle posts in), I'd like to see a buffalo wild wings. Always enjoyed their honey BBQ wings, ten times better than hooter's wings. Or something that was open 24 hours besides Mcdonalds.

Of course, but sometimes I'd rather have good food then good sightseeing. But the Bdubs that was by house had some good sightseeing, better then the hooters across the street:thumbup:

Denny's! I think Denny's could make a killing! I prefer it over IHOP anyday...open 24 hours near a drinking area...yummy!

They have Denny's in mainland, and while they do ok up there, I think that local investors have not been convinced that bringing one here would necessarily work out. They have Joyful and Skylark already which are pretty close to a Denny's...without the breakfast items.

I went to a Denny's up in mainland once and I was not impressed. In fact the only thing I found that it had in common with its American counterpart was the name and tacky decor. Shittiest Denny's ever.

I've been to a few around Tokyo, Kyushu, and throughout Kanagawa and Ibaragi prefectures...they are all pretty much the same.

I thought Denny's was pretty good. And you get free re-fills of coffee all night! Better food than Joyful and Skylark which is pretty so-so unless you order a japanese type dish.

So basically all of the Denny's in Japan are nothing like the Denny's in the states? That's sad. I mean, Denny's isn't the best by far but for once Japan actually managed to take something and make it even worse than it was originally. Japanese Denny's = :thumbdown:X1000

where? The NCO club, or The Cheese Cake Factory...their cheese cake is really good...now the NCO club itself...not impressive food at all.
The Pizza Hut off base in Seoul was really good! The ones on base here are pretty bad most of the time IMO.

they are express. They have some of those in the States too...in food courts that are not AAFES.

I thought the cheese cake sucked...my opinion, sorry if you like it. I actually enjoyed my meal at the club though...and the waitress was nice enough.
A real Cheese Cake Factory off base would be cool. But I really just like there Bleu cheese stuffed olive Martini and I can make one of those myself...hmmm. I guess their pasta and sliders (whitecastle style burgers) were good too.

I guess it depends on which kind you get..Rocky Road was the best I have had so far.

Cause they don't have the food menu or bar at the CCF.
Pizza Hut, I just like the big restaurant better than the express so I'm just calling the express "not real".... but I've never been a huge PH fan even in the states.

or IHOP...
I remeber they had an OHOP (Okinawa house of pancakes right around the corner from Hideaway back in like 96' or something. Way before Koza Music Town came in. It was a pretty small place but they were had quite a following on Trash 2 Street.
I vote for DQ!

No, they just serve a few types of Cheesecake Factory cakes, its no where near a full up Cheescake Factory Restaurant http://www.cheesecakefactory.com they have quite an extensive menu.
I liked the CCF in San Diego. Good times, and I don't think they even have the carrot cheese cake here that I liked from there.

Yeah Yard House and Okd Chicago would have me broke evry month! But it would be nice to be able to go have a yard of Fat Tire or Arrogant Bastard or any of how many ever other tasty brews.
