Okay, so I was looking up info for the new Wendy's (YAY) and I found this place, and thought it would be a good idea to join.

Let's see, I'm here until 2011, pregnant (due in September), and even though I've been here for several months, I still don't know where to go to have fun or anything. Pretty sad, isn't it? I don't really know what else to say about myself that could really spark anyone's interest, so, feel free to ask anything, I don't mind.

Well welcome!
I think the first few months to a yr are the hardest months due to adjusting, but it gets better!

We found we enjoyed doing the sight seeing, we loved going to the beach. We had fun venturing out and finding what new places we could find.

Go for it, grab a map & go drive and "get lost" you eventually find yourself because you usually manage to cross one of the numbered roads that can get you back where you should be.
We found neat stores, restaurants, parks, new ways to get from point A to point B when traffic was a pain.

I will try to think what else we came to enjoy while there...

That getting lost thing must be good advice -- You aren't the first one who's recommended that. I'll have to try that once I have my baby. Lord knows I don't actually need to get lost in the state I'm in right now, I'd have a panic attack!

I agree that the first year HAS to be the hardest! I'm definitely home sick, and I have NO friends here. It's really tough, but I think I'll be okay once I get used to being on my own.

Yeah, lets not have a hormonal breakdown!! LOL I did actually think of that after the fact. LoL!

I got involved in squadron function planning and that helped. We had American neighbors that were nice folks, we grew from 1 friend & 1 acquaintance to getting to know the people they knew and it just grew. When we moved on base we actually moved next door to co-workers of our off-base neighbors so we knew some of the same people.

By the time 3-4yrs rolled around, we couldn't go ANY where without running into someone I knew.
There are support groups and "cause" groups all over the island.
There are scrapbooking people that get together and scrap together, met people at the gym & exercise classes.

Keep an open eye for possible people to get to know.
Who knows the gal sitting across from you at the OB may be just as homesick and in need of a friend.

My mom suggested joining a parenting group once Ella is born, so I think I might try that to get to know someone else who is a new mom or something.

I think its hard too cause we put un-due pressure on our husbands to be the "everything" for us the moment they walk in the door.

There are play groups for the little ones that helps the Mom's meet others in the same boat. You could always post an add in the classifieds, Expecting Moms- want to meet other Moms-to-be out there? Make some new friends & see the island? leave your email or phone number and set up a place to meet- say at the mainstreet eatery the first time- you'll be the one with balloons tied to your chair or something.

There are LOTS of others out there in the same boat!

Heh, that's my problem. I'm really shy and can be anti-social. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I were here the whole four years and didn't have any real friends. Bummer.

I'm kind of the same way, so I'm sure we'll get along. :p

Only I've been here forever and can count my close friends on one hand.

And then you take the square root of that and multiply it by 100!

Heh, I'd be happy with a handful of close friends.
