I could probably try to find the education center on Kadena... and hope they do evening classes... but maybe you guys know a better place near Torii Station?

I was at the Hard Reef last night and found a scrap of paper left on the bar that said "Learn Real Conversational Japanese!" for $10 per lesson. Says they also offer "private tutoring lessons as well (anywhere, anyday available)". Anyone ever call/email one of these?

Anywhere, anytime for $10.00 a lesson...............sounds too good to be true!!

I saw someone advertising in the JU classifieds not long ago, who lived in Yomitan for Japanese and english lessons.

Most places would charge $25.00 for a private lesson.

Which when compared to what some "schools" charge for private English lessons is down right cheap.

So who/what kind of a place would charge $10.00 for a private lesson?

Naw, Mormons'll pamphlet your neighborhood advertising free lessons, and drive private tutors out of business.

Best place I found was little KUMON kids' centers. I just found out a few months ago that they had Japanese lessons for foreigners. There is so much homework, and the teacher helps you out everyday. I was here learning for four years on my own with just a book and trying it out everyday with people I met.

At KUMON I learned to read and write in a month and a half. Right now I am flying through it fast. I think by the language test in December I will be really decent. It costs 8400 a month for 8 lessons that last about an hour long. WELL worth it though. If I would have know about it four year ago, I would be speaking fluently already.

I am decent now, but I used to leave a lot out of my speaking...basically I would say "Train, here comes, when time..." Getting a lot better now.

Kumon has a homepage in English, and will send you info on what Kumon schools in your area offer Japanese lessons (not all of them do)...
