View Full Version : [Photography] July Assignment - Glisten

Hello. I want to see if I can start a small photography group here on
the JU forums. Being away from Okinawa I don't have a chance to shot
much but once I return, perhaps I can set up photo-meet-ups and talk
shop. But until I return ( sometimes in early October if not earlier ) I
want to set this up.
A photography assignment contest. Each month we will have a theme
word and we have to go out and take pictures based on the word. Anything
that you deem the word means or what you can capture. I will choose the
first word, but the winner of this contest will choose the next word and
so on.

dk, if we have a good turnout with this I'd like to have a seperate
forum here in the Entertainment forum for photography or if not, can you
make this a sticky. Perpahs I can be a mod for the photography forum
:thumbup1:

There are rules and so without futher ado, here we go!

Topic: Glisten
This is our first topic so I choose the first word I saw when I smashed
the keyboard in google and hit the I'm Feeling Lucky button.
So look for the glisten in diamond or the sparkle of someone's eye. The world is yours! Happy Shooting!

REMINDER:

The photo(s) must be taken during the month of the assignment. ( ie: this topic is for the month of July )
The assignment will be open for the entire month. The first 5 days of the following month will be the voting period.
Voters will vote for (3) three photos in the order that they think should be placed. ( ie: If a voter post 4, 6, 8. The voter believes #4 should be first place, #6 should be second place and #8 to be third place )
Anyone can vote and anyone can vote for any photos. You can vote for yourself.
Seeing as this is the first of these assignments you will be allowed to post (2) two photos!
Please resize photos for forum viewing. Nothing larger then 800x600 if possible
Need a place to upload photos? Try the following ( I'd watermark them first ):

Or start a flickr account. http://flickr.com

If you have questions, feel free to PM me. I am quite active; at least to my standards. ( also PM me if you have ideas. I want prizes later on when I return to Okinawa. I'll have deep pockets ;x )

I think it's a great idea! I'd love to participate as soon as I get there, couple more months. Buying a new waterproof digital before I come, so I'll be looking forward to using it.

Can it be anything that glistens? Like the Ocean, or a drop of dew on a flower? Or even suntan lotion on a chicks butt at the beach?

Maybe the grease dripping off the doner kebab on a gyro?

If the tanning oil on a chick's butt is glistening....it counts! Kudo's if you can pose with her after the first pic too!!

I'm looking forward to start this up. Should be lots of fun!!

Thanks for remembering this. You and I had discussed this for a bit in the Chatbox, and I was wondering if this would come to fruition. I am so thankful it did. I haven't had a chance to pull out the D40x in a few days but I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the month.
In fact, I just bought a new SB-600 so I am looking forward to breaking it out. I actually just ordered it from B&H Photo Video, and generally they ship fast, so I hope that it gets here in time to exploit it before the end of the month.

I do have one question in regards to the *rules*. Glisten sounds like an interesting topic but I am wondering if these have to be *natural* shots or can they be staged? I have some great ideas from which to generate Glisten shots...so I am hoping that we aren't limited to just natural shots.

Your thoughts?

Until next time...

It can be anything as long as you believe it applies to the topic word. So anyway you interrupt Glisten. It can be the shine from wet fruit, glistening of the ocean, or the sparkle off a pot of gold.
So yes, staged, natural, anything is good.

Great picture. I am generally not too fond of such dark contrast, but there is something intriguing about the darker element within the photo.

I am still waiting for my SB-600 to come in. Once I get that, I'll be taking some shots. I still haven't signed up for a Flickr account; I guess I need to do that soon huh? ;)

I am also going through some of my old photographs, but sometimes that can be painstaking since I literally have 10's of 1000's from which to peruse. It's probably just easier to wait for the flash and take some new ones.

Good photo to start with!

Until next time...

Thank you!
I agree, I dont normally like the harsh dark against bright background, but I really like the way this turned out.

Are you talking to me? I don't go by "Chris" so I don't think it was me. Plus, I don't think I know a Roy or Jodie.

BTW, This is the last week for the photo contest. Next week we will be voting so hopefully lots of people get into the voting part.

Also, next month's topic will be picked on Thursday or Friday. Hope to see more people participate. Holla!

Just a quick BUMP. This is the last day to submit photos taken during this month. Afterwards, the forum members will be voting for the best photo.
