Hi everyone!!!! I need some help I'm PCS'ing to Kadena in 2 months and my husband is going to Camp Hansen when he comes back from Iraq. We have no kids and both of us are E-4's. I'd like to get a house and if i can't afford that then an apartment will do. Where do i begin? and what's affordable to a typical E-4? I'd like to get somethin nice it will be our first place together!!! thank you!!!

Wait until you get here, go to the housing brief, then start looking. Your situation is different than most, and you would be best served by asking housing directly.

Worry about being able to drive for the first 90 days as III MEF Policy does not allow E-4s and below to get drivers lisenses for the first 90 days. Even Married ones one of my Cpls had to have his civilian spouse drive him for the first 90 days.

There is a waiver for this.
It should be different since one is working on Kadena and the other Hansen. Go to a PSC planning class at your base before you come here. At 29 Plams they called it Smooth Move or something like that. It helped alot to get some info before getting here. Base housing isn't what it's cracked up to be...literally. But you run into problems off base as well. Have fun with the move!!

I agree with talking to housing. They will provide you with a list of places to pick from.

I agree that you need to go to the housing office first, then the various housing agencies in town if you want to live off base (which might be the best bet if you want to split the difference between Hansen and Kadena). The housing agencies will take good care of you if you don't pounce on the the first thing that comes along.
The driving part shouldn't be an issue if your command isn't impotent. We get Sgts and Cpls drivers licenses all of the time if they're accompanied.

Yomitan is a good middle ground between Kadena and Hansen.
Here is a long list of off-base houses in different areas so you can get a taste for what's out there. There are several places in Yomitan.
