View Full Version : A haiku for injured and killed Iraqi civilians of the War (Graphic images)

Haiku, one of Japan's literary and cultural contributions to the world, can be explosive in their brevity. Traditionally they have a seasonal word embedded somewhere within them, but in recent years this restriction is not always adhered to.

Remember, the structure of haiku is 5/7/5 syllables per each line. However, if you'd like to make that for words, then please feel free to do so.

(Limit: Do not post images of decapitated heads. If such a photo elicits a message you want to relay in haiku, then link to that image.)

I'll remember that the next time I chuckle at Peter Griffin singing to AIDS patients in a hospital room or Quagmire being a pervert or the scenes where arms are ripped off or heads blown off with blood everywhere. Animation art form, photography and haiku art form, singing? I see the value in all four of them even when they combine with one another.

Hmm, this is your reply to "Shinobi"?

In all fairness, I believe he called you a "phucked up Poet" ?

I think that he is right on target. With the present situation over in Iraq, the injuries depicted within the pictures that you have posted, could well have been inflicted by fellow Iraqi's of a different sect.

Perhaps the people depicted, reside in a different country like Afghanistan, and the same thing applies.

War is not a good thing, but the people who wear the uniform go where they are told to go, and fight whom they are told to fight. It's their job, they are usually good at it, and they are the ones who protect the freedoms (or oppression) of the country that they are fighting for.

9 out of 10 people that you see in uniform today, are doing an outstanding job. I don't feel sorry for the idiot who gets himself arrested.

I do however, frown on people who take it upon themselves to chronicle that one individual, who makes everyone else look bad.

Indeed they could have. Never said they could not have.

People sure can discuss a haiku. For example suggest that a more powerful word to make the poem better, or what emotions it brings to the fore about the plight of those injured or killed.

I didn't say you cannot discuss haikus now did I TP? I said that there really isn't a discussion going on in this thread. To me it just seems like you're going fishing.

Isn't every thread an invitation to bite into it? Who wants to create a thread no one wants to read or peek in at?

I know some want to paint it as pushing buttons, but it is not. It is to provoke thought on the issue civilians injured in the war and perhaps a stronger disgust for war. But some can't get past the TP persona so they automatically ascribe it to pushing buttons.

I have always been about controversial topics since day 1, not only here but even in the old JU forums, but mostly I was into controversial topics on religion then. Some posts on animals and a few other things as well, but since then my sense of feeling it is important to speak out has increased.

This is just me. I'm not just doing it to be doing it. I come across interesting things when I read the newspaper or the net and get an idea for a topic and it develops until I think it is thought out enough in a way to generate traffic. Yes, controversy is thought provoking.

True, but I think this thread will be bitten into for the wrong reasons, or left alone entirely.

I know some want to paint it as pushing buttons, but it is not. It is to provoke thought on the issue civilians injured in the war and perhaps a stronger disgust for war. But some can't get past the TP persona so they automatically ascribe it to pushing buttons.

I agree with this, in regards to your injured iraqi and afgani civilan threads. But seeing as that one pushed some buttons and then you post another very similar thread so soon, it's hard not to think you're fishing for all the wrong reasons.

This is just me. I'm not just doing it to be doing it. I come across interesting things when I read the newspaper or the net and get an idea for a topic and it develops until I think it is thought out enough in a way to generate traffic. Yes, controversy is thought provoking.

Obviously, but it's still hard not to make the link once you have another very similar thread going that pissed off a few individuals. Which you've done before IIRC, so yes it is your style. I'm sure you'll continue to go fishing until you get a couple bites and then switch to whatever bait is getting the most hits at any given time.

Honestly, I think you secretly enjoy the drama. But I'll leave it at that since I don't want to derail your thread.

Fair enought, Pchan. We can agree to disagree in a civil note.

And see, I am never against allowing some off-topic discussion pop up like this, just so long as it does not dominate the very first page or if after that it doesn't become an indepth offtopic discussion. This is not indepth. Just a few posts, but if it derailed by becoming a longer series of posts on and on and people were purposely posting off topic images, then yes, I'd clean it up... well... you know. Because you did defend me on that point which I appreciated in the other thread.
