Has the price of gas affected your standard of living?
my standard of living is/ was preety poor in the first place, even though i pay all the bills... but my wife who dose most of the spending in my household is doing more window shopping and complaining of the price of everything. :)

The price of gas has directly affected my standard of living.
For the first time ever I have a brand new very nice, very fast car.
Gas here was 98 pence per litre. Now, thanks to the appalling government a host of retards voted in, it's now £1.29p per litre.
Luckily my car's diesel, so it does fifty to the gallon (if you drive like a Granny), but I hardly get to drive it, because I can't afford to put fuel in it.
I can't visit most of my friends, because they're spread all over the place. I can't afford to drive to the Supermarket to buy a weeks worth of shopping. I have to cycle and buy what we need each day.
With fuel now at £7 per gallon, I'll have to buy new shoes.

maggie, few here will go to the trouble to translate the costs you cite. I know you were paying twice what the average in the US was, due to gov. taxation.
This hasn't affected me yet, but I do note the higher cost of everything.

So far here it hasn't really affected me but when I go back to the states at the end of the month I can see it playing a major role in how we spend our free time.

Yeah, I am planning a road trip in the US in July too. I wonder if any states are considering lowering the speed limit now.
I heard an interview with some truckers, a few months ago now, and some said they are driving slower, not making as many trips per month but making more money by using less fuel.

Haven't really felt the sting yet. Only drive to work, most of the time when not in transit to work I walk. With the exception of work, most everything I need is within walking distance or accessible by means of public transportation. :)

It hasn't affected my "standard of living" per se, but it has changed my daily life. I'm more likely to stay home than drive somewhere for entertainment. I make fewer trips to the grocery store or exchange. I don't necessarily drive slower though. We bought a car with better gas "meterage" and that's helped, I think.

I definitely try to keep my driving to a minimum now. I don't drive to base for one thing anymore, I wait until I need to do multiple things on base to actually go (get groceries, check mail, get gas, etc., instead of going just to check the mail)
I use our Govt. truck to do work related stuff like driving paperwork around. They don't pay me enough to waste my own gas for that stuff.
I've been pondering riding my bicycle to work also...I need to time it though.

I actually read somewhere that they are trying to lower the interstate speed limit back to 55mph....I will try to see if I can find the article again.

I get in a car about twice a week now, so it hasn't bothered me. I'm sure my wife isn't happy about it, though.

They should contract night duty with that cool bicycle rickshaw that plies downtown Naha. Maybe a little more conspicuous than a taxi, but much classier and eco-friendly.

I recommend this classic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Super_Cub) bike for those who need fuel economy mixed with style.

Abso-frikkin'-lutely. I live near Shuri, but I have two jobs; one near Oroku, and one @ Kadena Air Base! Gas prices have gone up, but my pay hasn't!
And yes, I blame the Bush regime and the rich buttwipes for it!
