What was the name of that BC street book? Anyone read it? Any good?

Any tips on some good English fiction books about life in Okinawa or Japan or stories that take place here? Not The Grudge though. Non-fiction is OK too if the book is an interesting read. Please adviSe.

Pure accident: I was reading a collection of short stories about black life in D.C., and all of a sudden one is about the husband (Army Sgt.) living in Okinawa, comes down with cancer, wife living in DC starts to fly out to meet him, turns around in Hawaii,....

Book is called All of Hagar's Children. Wish I could recommend it more strongly but it's not really great.

The name of the book is actually B.C. Street. The base libraries have it...I didn't care for it myself.

Not sure if you read it before or not, but "The Girl with the White Flag" is a good read. It's a reflection by a woman and her stuggles during the battle of Okinawa as a young girl.
