The Yomiuri Shimbun, 3 June 2008
U.S. Naval Forces Japan headquarters has produced a Japanese language manga comic depicting the life of a U.S. serviceman of Japanese origin[snicker] working as a crew member on a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
The carrier USS George Washington will be deployed to the U.S. naval base in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture in August.
This unprecedented public relations exercise is aimed at deepening local residents' understanding about what living on the carrier is like.
Memo to U.S. military public relations department:
Uhmmm... manga's popularity is declining. Years late to think of using this to the fullest potential.
