What kind of wieght limits are given to a E-5 with dependants? I'm trying to find out what i need to sell and get ready so even a rough estimate would be great thanks.

Your max as an e-5 with dependants is 9,000lbs...25% of that is 2,250lbs (restricted amount)...but you will be allowed 2,500 because the order says 2,500lbs or 25% of your max.

That is unless you are AF...see this story! (http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=60514&archive=true) AF is allowed a full shipment.

I guess it depends on what service you are with. Best to check with your local TMO office.

okay so were allowed 25% coming but i originally heard we can get a waiver to take more back. then i heard that they took this away (about a week after we got on island) DH and i came with 4K which is a bit more than our allowed 2500 but we didnt get fined. now we got here and bought more furniture (dont ask me how we had 4K and no sofa or love-seat) so i am sure we will be well over our allowed limit.
does anyone know anything about this?

eta* okay i just read the S&S article and it says the MC is reviewing its rules so i am sure whatever i think i know will change anyway.

I am sorry for asking, and I know that it is probably explained somewhere, but I am lazy. My hubby is AF. What does this mean for us?? I mean when we move back to the States?

For moving back to the states, it just means you dont have to leave anything behind pretty much.

Ah, thanks. A lot of the people I know only use government furniture because they are afraid if they buy stuff they won't be able to take it back. Pretty ignorant. I'm sorry. I'm not a high maintenance gal, or uppity or anything, but having to look at gov. furn. 24/7 in my own home would drive me crazy.

I agree, sad fact tho is that we have some HUGE furniture. Cali King bed, overstuffed couches, large entertainment cabinet, huge glass desks....It might be in our best interest to leave a few of those behind lol (we should be arriving there in December).

Zeldan ~ Alaska is BEAUTIFUL, but you would be in for a bit of a climate shock!! :) I was born and raised there, when the hubby joined the Marines, we were there with a reserve unit for a few years, then PCSed to NC. Now we're heading over to Oki and I'm just glad I got the climate shock 2 years ago!! It's a wonderful place to be though, and Elmendorf is a very nice base (at least compared to wha we've expirecenced here at Camp Lejeuene)!
