So...I was driving home from work the other day, and heard Todd Hunter on the radio after several months of him being gone(to Kuwait, I think)!!

I just want to take this opportunity to profess my undying love for Todd Hunter.... Everyone makes fun of me for this, but I think he is SO cute.

Feel free to make fun of me, but the kid is hot.<3

He wasn't in Kuwait :)

He actually anchored some casts where he was at - if you were watching then you would know ;)

Slickmetal,

Who in the **** ever watches the Pentagon Channel?

It has to be the most awful bullshit on AFN television. I can hardly stomach 30 seconds let alone watch a whole broadcast.

Yeah, Todd's back. Glad to see he made it back safe and sound,

Samy

Doc P,

I understand much of your anger, after having hearing it (the radio) from the other side now.

Wave 89 is rotating DJ's left and right with little to no real experience, and many many questions that you feel are never answered, but in all honesty, my complaint wasn't about the radio. I believe many of the DJ's, namely Aries D and the Janitor, are actually very good. I can totally feel you though. I mean you actually only get them for a few months. Once you get used to them and enjoy them, it's on to a completely new DJ who just started to learn the ropes, make their new games, come up with interesting topics, and the like. It's very frustrating. That's why I tried to be there every day no matter what. I wanted to be there for my audience because I had some very specific stuff on my show (Play it or Not, the Call to the Farm, the Wake-Up Call). I think in my time on the air, I may have only missed 2 or 3 shows in a year and a half.

On the flipside though, my complaint was actually with Slickmetal talking like someone would actually watch the Pentagon Channel.

That in my opinion really is BS, because it is practically unwatchable. It is just another one of those channels that is there so a General in the Pentagon can look up at it and say, "Wow" maybe once a week. It's not for regular watching. Maybe every once in a while I might watch one or two news stories, but then some Army crap comes on and I have to change the channel. I would rather watch Sesame Street,

I actually enjoy Aries D. Mainly because he plays different music than is played the rest of the day. It is very frustrating to hear the same crap every hour .At this point, between 10 and 14:00 I rely on my CD's.
Before Aries and the Janitor I didn't even turn on the radio on most days.
Sorry

No disagreement with me on the Pentagon Channel Samy. Never watch it myself.

As for the DJ's...GySgt Stare (janitor?) is pretty good so is Aries...to tell the truth, most of the dj's (including you) are/were good. The problem is when they try to fit a mold that doesn't match their personality. Take for example Todd...he does well with those force fed jokes/news articles he reads on his show...the others don't do well at all. Yes WAVE recycles the same material for the morning and afternoon shows...and yes I have nothing better to do than to listen to both shows! If someone is not cut out for comedy (no delivery) then they shouldn't do it...makes them sound like an ass!

Let the guys/gals develop their own personality...yes, you and I discussed this before, so no need to go over it again, just a sore subject with me.

I agree with the same crap being played but Aries D. puts me to sleep. His style may be better suited for evenings. Too laid back for the morning show. i want to wake up not be smoothe talked into sleep..................

87.3 FM Okinawa or IPod is the only way to go in Okinawa!
And the only way to watch AFN programming on TV is with your finger on the mute ready to hit it as soon as the commercials start!

He is quiet a smooth talker. I have to agree.
They should have something like nothing but slow jams on Friday night. Like they have in the States. They usually play those after the clubs close<3

 WHO IS TODD HUNTER??? He's only like, the cutest freakin' AFN employee ever!(Although....the Janitor is making his way up my list after I saw him at a comedy show at Thirsy's....He might have to clean something up over here...hehe)

Todd used to do the "Island News Break"....

The music a DJ plays isn't a factor for me in whether or not I like the DJ. The DJ usually follows a playlist set by someone else. I like the DJ's voice or sense of humor. AresD could replace that Tom Joiner BS at night. He has that Barry White voice thing going. I've only heard the Janitor once, and he didn't leave an impression. Granted, I don't listen to ther radio a lot these days though. That's all I know for now. :) I recall the name Todd Hunter, but I also remember Tad Hunter... heh. What was his shtick again?

Samy I know you had to play with in the constraints of AFN/DOD but "play it or not?" wtf were you thinking?

CaptainMcLusty
05-12-2008, 11:29 AM
Dude....I liked Samy the most out of all of them.... Crowell was pretty awesome too, I personally can't STAND Aries D as a radio personality. I hate waking up in the morning to that crap. There is no energy in the show, the interviews suck lately(due to the lack of energy!), and the music is something you would hear in a school nurse's office. LAME-O.

As far as who I would like to do dirty things to(most of which being illegal...) it is hands down, Todd Hunter.

You know,

Sometimes I ask myself that question as well, but it was an entertaining hour of programming.

To say the least, people could voice their opinions over songs, and we had some fun, too. It was cool, especially with some of the shittiest music we had to play, giving the people a choice of whether we should have "played it" or "not".

Don't think I didn't take some heat for some of those calls. I was glad to play them though, because people could publicly decry some of that awful music. Case in point...Chain Hang Low? Jibbs?

Please hang me if I ever hear that one again,

Samy

I meant no offense, he just really doesn't get as into it as Crowell, and when Crowell interviewed me, I was laughing my ass off the whole time. The energy that I need to start my day just isnt there....

Todd Hunter is a horrible DJ, I actually get embarrased for him when he's on. When he was on TV he was so monotone that I couldn't even stand to watch him. I'm sure he's a good guy but when it comes to broadcasting he bores the crap out of me.

nah.. that amber watson chick on afn commercials spooks me the hell out.. what is up with her eyes? she looks like an alien or something.. she scares my daughter too...

on the radio issue... the programming sucks to me.. as the music they play for the most part i dont listen to....

why anyone would have a problem with the tom joiner show i dont know... you have to cater to all audiences... i personally dont listen to the show but there is a demographic here that does..

there was a reader letter in the kadena shogun about that show saying it is divisive and calling it a black empowerment show.. ( someone please tell me what in the world that is)... lol then the commander followed up with he does not approve of some of the programming on there... the tone of the letter and the response was clearly referring to hip hop music and entertainment geared toward african americans... now i though long and hard about this... and you know where is the offensive language at in ANY of the few hip hop songs they play.... all music is censored and only the radio edited versions are ever played on radio stations as a whole.. withthe exception of some underground stations in the states.. but on AFN you are not hearing any offensive or vulgar language... so what is the problem...

i have to listen to 3 doors down and all that other music i dont like for 90% of the day.. why cant i have a few songs or radio shows that entertain me?

Dude,

I could not agree more. It seems like the only people who get upset over Joiner are people who take being white way too seriously. He's just playing with what he says.

In all honesty, I think his show is hilarious. He has this new dude on his show called Huggy Lowdown, and it's laugh my ass off funny, and also I like the commentary at night by Tavis Smiley. Very insightful.

i guess its taboo for african americans to have their own sense of humor...

its wrong for us to try and find humor in situations that believe it or not black americans still experience on a daily basis...

it is human nature to deal with emotions, frustrations, pain, grief, and so forth with humor...

so while some may get offended because someone on that show may say... well if he was a black man he would have been tried and convicted already or things along that line....

the ones who do get offended honestly are more than likely part of the problem in the first place... instead of admit that these things do still happen and these problems still do exist they get "offended"

i have never heard any form of Hate Speech or hateful language on the show...

and honestly.. the only time i have heard the show on is in the evening around 8 or so a few days a week.. and the only reason i hear any of it is because its on the channel guide...\

how many people on this island are actually listening to the radio at that time anyway.....

if you are change the station and listen to rush limbaugh or sean hannity and their semi racist rants... thos offended by tom joiner should enjoy these two show...

holla...

Samy - If you read this, I hope you're doing well at MCCS. Feel free to PM me. I only happen across this site every few months when I'm catching up on the events in Okie.

BTW, Samy, are you on facebook? If so, look me* up.

I issue my full regards and best wishes to any other past comrades of broadcasting who are peering at these words. Although you might deny it, you all are periodic slaves to curiousity, if not outright vanity, so I know you'll be inspecting the forums for any whispers of targeted dissidence or remonstrance (That means you, Todd, a.k.a. Diva! - *inside joke*).

*Samy, you know who this is; if not, just glance over the old forum posts in the AFN Pulse - the clue to my identity is wedged somewhere between "ass" and "hat".

As for you other forum-goers, keep up the invective; it's a healthy release and they do read it. And you know damn well who "they" are...
