I dont know about the rest of you here but I am more than just a little sick and tired of all the bitching and moaning by members here in regards to the crap that happens here in Okinawa, from both sides of the fence.

What I would like to see here is people add their experiences or information about the things that people or organizations have done to inprove the quality of life for the Okinawan people and vice versa.

Doesnt matter if it is volunteering to teach English, help out at an orphange, pick up garbage on the beach, you name it please feel free to add specifics and share the positive things that you know about.

Let's try and keep it positive please!:D

Do the blood drives here on base help the Japanese off base?

Also are the Japanese workers allowed to donate blood on base as well?

Dont know if you were aware of this but the Japanese Red Cross accepts blood donations from any donor no matter where they are from.

Come on DK you know what I am talking about here...

I am talking about things large or small that the community benefits from.

There have been some great examples here so far and hope that others add more as well.

The Dodds Schools used to donate books to the Amer-Asian School here and Toys for Tot's I know has donated to kids in orphanages and other places as well.

You have no idea how much good meat and cheese from the bases keeps me from going insane and leaving, and by not leaving, I am able to do more for the community. Thus, by importing good meat and cheese, the military is doing quite a lot for the community.

The SeaBees helped to build the playground at my elementary school. That was very nice of them. They also helped build the hospital where I was born, I think.

I'm not sure how old you are Socal, but if the hospital was built before 1972, I don't think we should count it as a charitable act of a kind benefactor. No need for a history lesson, I'm sure, but the USCAR was responsible for pretty much the whole material existence of Okinawa. And I mean responsible the way you are responsible for your house when you own it.

While OkiSteves response to you may be right, it is examples like this that I am refering to though. Military actions that benefit the community.
