View Full Version : Could Oprah win the Presidency in the future?

I think she could, and eventhough she has stated she has no political ambition for that office, I wouldn't put it pass her as she continuously seeks to leave her mark on the world -- one in which she feels deeply for its citizens and strives to use her money, celebrity, and conections for philanthropy.

I think coming from poverty, making mistakes in life, and then rising in the business media world to the richest woman in the U.S. points to savy leadership and business skills which tells us that she knows how to surround herself with good advisors, which all presidents need.

Though she is not perfect, and with all her money she can do much more, and I am sure she plans on it, I think she would make a wonderful future president, and I would vote for her.

She has one of many of the leading criteria I value already going for her -- not beholden to a special interest group, courage, outspoken, self-made, the ability to speak straight as a straight shooter, and compassion.

Would you vote for her? If not, why not?

oh god no! I'm from chicago and every since oprah came around thats all I hear about. Besides how conceded can you be to have your own magazine with your picture on every cover? Not to mention telling everyone what to read all the time. But the really sad thing is how people feed off her every word. But that relates back to what I said about your little zoo trip canceling fiasco, being told what to do and believe your whole life.

Say what you will about Oprah, but I think she is the only woman alive right now that could be President. (sad to say)

As for her telling people what to read?? That is a good thing too, she has spurred interest in reading again, which educates people, which is also a good thing. All of those housewives that are in her book club probably would have never gone back to reading if it weren't for the big O!

yeah I know she has done good and I'm not against her views. But I guess I'm just sick of hearing and seeing her on the tv back home.

Well said, Dr.P.

The O is great and has contributed a lot to bettering others' lives. She has risen above the sniping of other talk show hosts and rather than making stories known, goes out to affect the lives of those in the stories to try and make them better or give them some comfort.

Millions of Americans and others around the world see in her a level of caring that moves them.

Then any objections to her becoming president simply resides with you and your lack of being able to handle information about her -- NOT her. Her skills and credentials exist outside of what you can tolerate. Other than your being sick of news about her, what do you think would disqualify her as a president, or a damn good one at that?

I think Oprah could/would win. I wouldn't have a problem voting for her.

Come to think of it...why would Oprah run?? Except to be the 1st woman, and 1st African American I just don't see her wanting the stress or the pay cut.

I would vote for Oprah in a heart beat over Hillary. While I kind of agree with P_Chan about getting burned out on seeing her all the time, (she always seemed to be on when I would want to watch some TV in the afternoon), I have no doubt that she would have the citizens best interest in mind always when conducting day to day business.

Come to think of it...why would Oprah run??

To reach more people with her ideas and to offer the country whatever she feels it is lacking in areas that are important to her and what she feels is important to others.

... I just don't see her wanting the stress or the pay cut.

Well, she has already officially thrown cold water on the idea saying she has no intention to do so. I am sure she won't this election or probably even the next, as well. But 10 years down the line? Who knows.

I do think she is ambitious, and she seems to hint at times that sometime in the not too far future she will stop her show.

What then? Just philanthropy through her Angel Network? I don't think that would satisfiy her ambitions, and to be honest, I do think she has a liking for the spotlight.

After being the richest woman in America, and near the richest woman in the world, the office of the Presidency would give her that top bully pulpit to try and get things she cherrishes past in Congress, and barring that, use the bully pulpit of the presidency to try and ram things through.

True, but I personally think that there should be a maximum age limit for the Presidency...say 50? I'm tired of these old farts running things all the time.

I have not watched Oprah in years, so if she where to run, at the moment I do not even know where she stands on some of the major issues that always seem to be a focal point. That is something I would be interested to find out, just to see if her ideals are the same as mine.

Oh great! Now you guys will be tuning in to Oprah for "research" reasons.
Before we know it there will be a whole generation of feminine men....from watching 10yrs worth of talk shows. :D

Well, she has come out and supported Obama with her endorsment of him, so it would appear she believes at least in some small part on a lot of the issues he believes in. I know that is not a full indicator of where she stands on important social issues, but along with his platform and what she writes in O, or what she profiles on her shows, you can see what she would probably support and how she might do so.

At one time Oprah harbored a desire to become a Hollywood starlet, and that was not all too long ago, but it is apparant now to her that she just cannot obtain that position, so I think as she moves into an older and even more mature age and her inner circle suggests she consider politics to further her ideas after her show runs its final course, she will do so.

I say another 10 years.

Some of Oprah's shows move me to tears. I guess I do have a feminine side.

lol. Well, shows where she has casts from other shows don't interest me. Probably those and the ones with Hollywood stars get on my nerve. I like it when she targets social issues or some kinds of injustice.

But, I geuss she doesn't want every show to be super serious. And I geuss that is her savy businesswoman side of her coming out.

Oprah is a wonderful human being. Her whole purpose in life is to bring people together. (at least that is what she is saying now)

It must be tough for her to "keep it real" if I may borrow a snippet from another thread. She does a good job of it though.

I have read many of the books on her list by the way. My wife and I both read them. Much to my surprise, her selections were not the stereotypical "feminazi" reads one usually finds recommended by powerful women.

I do not apologize for the sexist undertones. Like many people my age, "turning the page" takes some work. But Oprah has my vote.

Why run for presidency when you're already the most powerful woman in the USA?

As a booster to the power you already have!
