Are any of you guys into it? I've been making hip hop beats for about 5 years now and am really getting into it. If you deal with any aspect of the thread title then please post with what you do, it would be nice to get together with fellow audiophiles and talk. Let me know!

Too late Obe...I caught the post before your edit.lol
But you ask a fair question. I never wanted it to matter. But for some reason it does.
Being female means I got great skills at getting stuff way cheaper at Guitar Center...but it also means it's harder to be taken serious.
And collaboration with others into electronic music...still waiting to find another gal who knows where I am coming from.:(

I wasn't asking your gender because I thought that if you said "girl", then I wouldn't take you serious.. I said it because I have never known or heard of a girl mixing or producing music. Actually, I think its really interesting!
But on another note, why does it have to be a girl you collabo with? Have you really been "pre-judged" that much by males about your music interest?

Obe..oh it doesn't have to be another female but it would be nice to meet another who is into MIDI and stuff because the reality is that we would be able to get together more often to hang out.
I am a music major and most of the guys back home who I took classes with were into jazz and blues and actually made fun of "electronic" music. You know there are people who don't even thing computer generated music is made by "real" musicians.lol I admit though it has to be really good not to sound cheesy.

Well hip hop nowadays is pretty much electronic music. There aren't a lot of hip hop beats out there made with real instruments anymore. I haven't gone to school for music at all, I'm a business major, but I've been teaching myself about music for the last 6 months and I'm learning a lot.
I don't deal much with midi, mostly because I don't have the money for all the equipment right now but I do have a midi controller plugged into my computer so I can simulate a keyboard. I'd like to hear your music sometime... Do you have your music posted somewhere on a website?
What did you learn about music when you were in college? Theory? Recording? Everything? I plan on going to some type of music school when I get out but I'm not sure what route I want to go yet...

I got my AA in music and it looks like if I want to get my BA in it I will have to wait till I get back home since it's a performance type major there isin't too much to do via online.
But I have undergraduate theory courses done, choir, vocal performance. Still have to do two semesters of piano though.
I was actually a music director when I was in college several years back. I took lots of Radio Broadcasting courses and did lots of band promotion. I was an intern for a recording studio. Yeah I was really getting into that scene.
Then I married a marine. Yeah I could have stilll kept on my career but I chose rather to stay home and be mom. If you want to make it in radio you have to be willing to move to go where you can get a job and that wasn't fitting in with my new role and wife and mom. It's all good though. No regrets.
Oh it feels good to be able to talk about this again. so far I have met two people who are into music on island. One is an proffessor at Maryland Uni and the other is a former marine who played bassoon in the Marine Corps band.
Now I got you Obe.:)

Well, the route I'm going with music isn't so much radio, although I wouldn't mind hearing my beats on the airwaves... I just want to be able to make my music have the sound quality of mainstream stuff like Timbaland, Dre, J. R. Rotem... Sooner or later I'll get there but once I do, then I gotta figure out how to promote myself.. It seems like the area of music I'm trying to succeed in is a lot of who you know more than , what you know..

Hopefully I can speed up my beat making process... Lately its been taking me a month finish a beat... I've already got a few projects I'm working on for some barracks rappers but they are almost done. If you're really interested I'll give you my Myspace music page and you can check out the few I have posted there.

I've been digital for about 4 years now. Got tired of traveling with CD's and skips. Even though i don't worship one music, I perform variety, i enjoy performing more than production. Just got to have the crowd. I've been a musician now for 35 years and have had formal training in arranging, etc but the stage is the only place i feel comfortable.
But i do know how much time it takes behind the scenes to get a track laid down. Most laymen have no idea the work it takes to get a great sounding track out through the speakers. keep it up and good luck.

Tell that to the up-and-coming hip hop artists asking me for more beats, they just don't know... Especially for someone like myself who is still learning the stuff!

most of these weekend warriors think it's easy, hit up radioshack and buy some cheap-ass mixing gear and go to town. found out long ago, you spend good money now, or you will later. better to do your research and read forums and buy the best gear money can afford. you won't regret it later.
seen too many get in the biz and thinking it is easy. reading the crowd is an art. you have to perform for the masses, not yourself. that is why so many fail, and they don't have an ear for it either.

I love 80's freestyle music...Stevie B, Coro, Dino Debbie Deb and all the old school groups from that ERA.

So it sounds like you play rock, thats pretty cool...its definatly more challenging because you have to record most of the sounds yourself. I have never used anything but FL Studio but I am very interested in switching to something like pro tools or cubase. I haven't switched yet because I don't want to take the time to learn a whole new program if FL Studio can accomplish the same task...
I have FL loaded on a Dell laptop, it's been getting the job done but as I start to use more and more VST's the CPU is overloading... I got a oxygen 49 midi contoller and a large diaphram USB condenser mic. I got a small low-grade set of studio monitors, I'd like to upgrade those.. I'm really just trying to learn about mixing right now. My current studies are on compression, I want to get a good handle on that.
Do you have your music on a website somewhere?

I like making beats too, but I prefer the old fashioned way. I'm a complete beginner, but I really enjoy it. Plus, it's good stress relief! ;)

I tried to learn to play drums but my wrists are connected to my hands and forearms weird to where I can't hold the drum sticks like a normal human. Drums are awesome!

Well that sucks!!
When I finally finish my basement (this summer), I'd like to get my own kit to beat on so I don't have to go to my neighbor's house. My wife will love it! ;)
