The engine, new, rebuilt, used?
Make sure you get at least a 12 month 12000 mile parts and labor warrantee.

Are you sure your car needs an engine? I always got the impression that Japanese cars' engines will always outlast the bodies over there in Okinawa. Maybe get a few different opinions on it. Also, I would nail them down on price......and I'm talking down to every last quart of oil, coolant, filters, belts, even hose clamps. And I don't like those places that are vague about giving an exact amount.......it seems like anytime you give them some wiggle room, they just exploit it and try to screw you.
Another trick I've seen used is "oh, your car had a cracked exhaust manifold or smog pump or whatever............we just went ahead and changed it". Then if you ask to see the old one, it's mysteriously missing in action. You've gotta make sure they call you before they do ANYTHING not pre-approved by you.

I think the big thing is getting all the info changed on your title and jci. That is if its not the same engine already in your car. Not to mention you have to get a whole new wiring harness and ecu that goes to that engine. Then you will need to find a mechanic unless you plan on doing it yourself. There is also the odds and ends you will need like different motor mounts does the original transmission bolt up to the new engine what about the radiator and lines. Do all the accesories (alternator power steering pump water pump ect...) come with it? can the fuel pump and lines supply enough fuel for the new engine? The list goes on and on.
None of it is extreamly hard to do but you have to think everything over to make sure its worth your while. You can get more help if you tell us what car you have and what engine you want to put in it.
