Those accused of being witches are going to be hit hard by Global Warning. Yes, it seems that there is an actual correlation between witch killings and poor/harsh changes in weather patterns that cause hardship.
It kinda seems like that funny chart showing the correlation between rising temperatures and pirates, but this study looks at trends of witch killings corresponding to changes in weather and a pattern emerges. Be sure to check out this interesting read from The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/13/opinion/13kristof.html?pagewanted=print).
In rural Tanzania, murders of elderly women accused of witchcraft are a very common form of homicide. And when Tanzania suffers unusual rainfall either drought or flooding witch-killings double, according to research by Edward Miguel, an economist at the University of California, Berkeley.
In bad years, the killings explode, Professor Miguel said. He believes that if climate change causes more drought years in Tanzania, the result will be more elderly women executed there and in other poor countries that still commonly attack supposed witches.
and as a side note from the story:
In the United States, for example, some historians have found correlations between recessions or declines in farm values and increased lynchings of blacks.

Interesting correlation...
Interesting indeed. Scapegoating has been going on for hundreds -- if not thousands of years. If crops fail and weather change is a part of that, and superstitions persist where groups of people think others directly caused that through supernatural powers, then it is reasonable to assume their ignorance could cause them to act in a way as to kill the person they think is responsible for that.
That still goes on in some places, and the research has been correlating those killings with weather or crop failures. Very reasonable argument with some supporting data. We find it incredulous simply because in N. America we stopped killing witches hundreds of years ago.

Recapping last week's weather in Kenya:
Kenya mob kills 11 accused of being witches (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/K/KENYA_BURNING?SITE=AZPHG&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT)
By TOM ODULA
Associated Press, May 21
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) -- A group of up to 300 young men killed 11 people who were accused of being witches and wizards in western Kenya, in some cases slitting their throats or clubbing them to death before burning their bodies, officials said. ...
Deputy police spokesman Charles Owino said that the gang hunted down the eight women and three men in the western Kenya villages of Kekoro and Matembe. Most of the victims were over the age of 70, Owino said. ...
Ndirangu, the commissioner in charge of Kisii Central district where one of the villages is located, said that residents are superstitious and have often targeted suspected witches and wizards. But this week's attack was the most shocking in recent years, Ndirangu said.
Personal vendettas? Maybe. Another underlying cause? Maybe. Weather related causing a chain of events in the environment and more tension?
UN raises concern about food crisis in Kenya (http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-04/19/content_8007598.htm)

Moreover, the food situation in the east African nation has been further worsened due to the problem of fungi, which have reportedly destroyed 5,600 hectares of rice in Central Province, where 10 to 20 percent of the country's annual production is harvested, it said.
Even during good years, Kenya is a net importer of rice. The fungi problem has resulted in an even greater need for imported rice.

The temps are starting to rise (a little late) in Okinawa. Could there be a possible Heat / Full Moon / Pay Day connection to the younger Military alchohol inbibations and violence? Will this summer be worse or better...and with fewer witch torches. Hmmmmmm.....will be interesting. And will there need to be sacrifices of Virgins to appease the Typhoon Gods to spare Okinawa....but are there enough Virgins here? Will Global Warming increase or decrease beach front property here on Okinawa? and lastley....if you are Wiccan....will you be burnt on Okinawa?

No, I'll probably be sacrificed at Stonehenge, just up the road.
Did you say all sacrificed have to be virgins?
I may yet be safe.

yes these computer models somehow predict a change in weather due to a 300 parts per million gas chaning by a few percent extra ppm is ridiculous...water is the main green house gas...just put a cover over your swimming pool...that should cure this global warming....:old:

Good to have a swimming pool in Africa for throwing accused witches in to test 'em.
If they sink and drown: innocent.
If they float: Guilty -- and commence the burning.
Oops, sorry... mixing that with wells and Salem.

Damn that weather in India!
Bad weather bites off a chunk of India mango produce (http://in.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idINIndia-33817420080529)
MUMBAI (Reuters) - Bad weather is likely to bite off nearly a fifth of the production of India's favourite fruit, mango, this year, industry and government officials said.
Turning to the witching weather...
Villagers burn woman accused of being witch (http://in.reuters.com/article/topNews/idINIndia-33828820080530)
BHUBANESWAR, India (Reuters) - An Indian woman accused of witchcraft was beaten, gagged and burnt to death in a remote eastern village, police said on Friday.
The woman was dragged out of her home, her hands and legs tied and taken to a crematorium where she was set on fire in front of the village which ignored her screams for help. ...
The victim was murdered by the husband and relatives of a neighbour whose death was blamed on her witchcraft.

Ah... an Indian witch beating caught on film and set to some kick ass music. Terribly sad, but look at the parched countryside. Looks like a drought.

I hope that authorities came to this ignorant village and meted out justice for this woman -- whether she survived or not. Who knows where they were leading her off to in the end? Out to the village outskirts to be cast out, or to a particular hanging tree?

I have to admit, that we have had some really decent summers the last few years.
Of course.....it may be due to the fact that I have two fridges, a freezer for us, and two chest freezers for the dogs meat.
