If you had plans to fly AMC anytime soon Space A or EML, you might want to rethink even going and get commercial tickets.

You will soon find out what happened to this weekends' flight :)

Sucks not to have money (them), oh and its no rumor.

Go call the AMC HQ, if you want a real answer without blowing OPSEC.

I heard 3 weeks, something temp. might happen.

and go read here (http://blogs.usatoday.com/sky/2008/04/ata.html) about ATA, whom AMC contracts.

If they were hurting that badly the gov must have been keeping them out of hock in the first place. Space A is a great benifit, but it has always been unpredictable. I used to work on KC-135s and we would take space-As just to get diverted in route and have to drop people off halfway to the original destination. You have to be flexible to fly space-a, that for sure.

That sucks! I feel sorry for a coworker of mine who was planning on flying to tokyo on space A this weekend.

That really sucks we were going to try it on our return trip from Guam next month. Looks like I will have to go get roundtrip tickets now.

I was trying to get my son on space A for a flight back home. We don't need a return ticket....woohoo.
Guess I'll go, bite the bullet and buy a ticket.

Let me play stupid here:

Does this affect my PCS if I am scheduled to fly out to CONUS on April 12th via the freedom bird?

/Stupid Switch Off

I am thinking it does unless they can contract another carrier, if not they will need to anty up some commercial tickets.

Speak with your transportation office. You'll probably fly commercial. It's the government's expense not yours.

Of course you could be in my situation. My wife flew back to the states via the "Your getting fvcked" express. And was supposed to fly back here on the 11th. Now, I have to shell out 1100 bucks to buy a ticket because good old Uncle Sam is so fvcking stupid that they plan on contracting the worst possible carriers for this mission. What the hell happened to reliability. Guess I shouldn't be suprised.......(oh did i mention they just told me I probably will get sent to Iraq in 3 months today? Even better!) They claim we have the newest and most reliable, and technologically advance equipment available but I can buy a better IBA from the Dragon Skin manufacturer. Oh, but wait, if you wear Dragon Skin, the government has it that you will not receive your insurance money if KIA. Just another way that the government secures their kick backs for inferior equipment/services.

Sorry for the rant, but you have one pissed off and disenfranchised SGT on your hands right now. I don't take to kindly to this kind of ignorance and stupidity.

Unfortunately, you may have to pay for your commercial tickets upfront and wait to be reimbursed later. This is when those military relief places come in handy. Be sure you book an APPROVED airline. I think the TMO folks who book TDY/TAD and PCS flights can help you there.

Another myth. If you ever attend CACO training, you'll get the real deal on SGLI. The only people that can affect it getting paid out are the beneficiaries. You can even off yourself and it will get paid out.

If its official travel, on orders...swipe that GTC and pay nothing out of your own accounts. Especially need to do this so you won't bust any RNLTD as well. But yes, get guidance from TMO before procuring any of your own tickets, but you more than likely will have to go thru them anyhow.

You can't book your own official travel unless your orders specifically allow that. Otherwise you have to use TMO

For people PCSing, TMO will do whatever it takes to send you commercial. If your new departure date will get you there after your RNLTD, an email to your gaining commander can get that extended. I'm sure TMO is already working OT to ensure everyone gets out as painlessly as possible. Something like this gets 4-star attention. Remember it's not just affecting people here on Oki, it's affecting people EVERYWHERE.

As for Space A, ATA was only a small part of space A, and the number one rule of space A is be patient. Number 2 is have $$ available for your trip if space A falls through.

BTW, if someone traveled to the states on orders and had freedom bird (ATA) tickets to come back, the gov't will arrange alternate flight reservations for the return travel - no need to spend money out of pocket. If they flew somewhere space A and planned to come back space A, see rule number 2 above.

For official travel updates, call TMO - they'll give you the real scoop. For Space A, call AMC...
