Has anyone been to the New Sannon hotel up in Tokyo? Managed to get myself a room there for once I'm visiting Tokyo in July. I was asking because I was wondering how close it was to Tokyo Disney.

I liked staying at New Sanno when I was there. Its a couple of train rides away from Disney which depending on your situation is either no problem or a hurdle.
My wife and I brought our 3 year old son (at the time) and wanted to maximize ride time while at Disney so I booked a couple nights in the "Disney approved" hotels across the street and stayed at the Sanno when we toured Tokyo. I just couldnt see us all heading back to our room for an afternoon nap then jumping on a couple trains to go back in the evening to continue the fun.
Like I said, the hotel is great for the price (nice resteraunt, little shoppettel, etc.) and is a quick 10 min walk from the train station.
Next time im in Tokyo I will probably stay there again.

The New Sanno is in the middle of Hiroo. It's a pretty upscale. I think a lot of different embassies are located there. Don't expect anything cheap within walking distance. It's somewhat close to a train station, so you should be fine.

Akihabara is cool...tons of shops to go into...6 and 7 floors high, nothing but electronics and toys! Good place for you P! Enjoy it!
btw...you can also stay at Atsugi, Yokota, and Yokosuka lodges...cheaper than New Sanno, but not in the middle of everything.

Ahh, the New Sanno. I met my wife there. <3
She used to work in the restaurant. Nice place and quite a bargain considering the location.

Isn't the New Sanno just for SOFA-Status personnel? I went there in '99, but I would like to go back one day...

It's open for military AD and retired personnel and State Dept. employees as well.

"Don't expect anything cheap within walking distance."
I was gonna post a pic of a pack of 12 strawberries in a supermarket about 2 minutes away from the New Sanno.
12 strawberries.
The price on the package was 5000 yen!
For 12 strawberries. Not the big ones either.
Anyway, file size limit is 19k so it's not worth the time to resize but you get the jist.
There are some good resturants nearby though...
All things considered, I wouldn't stay at the New Sanno if I was going to Tokyo Disney - it's pretty far away so if you're gonna pay for a taxi to get back, it will be expensive. You can do the train thing but it will take extra time and you need to know how the trains work. Also, if you leave the park late when everyone else is trying to do the same, you'll all be fighting for the same train. If you have big kids, not as bad, very difficult if you'll be carrying one or two...
I didn't stay at the NS the last time we went to disney, but I will definitely save some extra yen and stay at the Disney hotels next time. The extra money spent will be well worth the extra time spent at the park without having to travel a lot to get there.

I know everything is expensive as hell in tokyo. I also don't plan on buying any strawberries:D. I've got my reservations for two days at the new sannon, they didn't have any open rooms on the last day. So we plan on waking up early on the last day, going to another hotel closer to the park, and checking in and spending the day at the park.

You'll have a good time no matter what...didn't mean to imply you wouldn't, just that next time I'm gonna plan to stay at the Disney hotels if a trip to Disney is my primary plan.
The NS hotel is a nice place but expect the level of service to mirror stateside hotels and NOT a Japanese hotel. With that said, the cost factor can overcome that if a trip to Tokyo is your prime objective. Lucky for me, the mrs is Okinawan so taking the trains/subways wasn't difficult.
Last time we went we stayed near Shinigawa train station in a small hotel right next to the Shinigawa Prince Hotel. The Prince hotel has a great aquarium/dolphin/seal show thingy along with an IMAX theater so that was cool. We took the train to Disney then paid like 8000 yen to get back cause my daughter was sleeping and it started to rain so I fessed up the bucks to take the easy way back.
After a couple of days we changed hotels cause the prime reason for the trip was to see U2 in concert in Saitama. That was killer too. Next time they come back I'm buying tickets for every night they play. And we'll prolly go to Disney again too.

Yeah, tokyo disney is reserved for one whole day of our trip, but its' not the main reason for hitting up tokyo on the way back. Like you, my wife is Okinawan so we'll have no problem navigating the trains and subways.

I do not remember any subways/ trains/ etc in Okinawa. Unless she is very acute you will have issues........prepare for them now.

They have remodeled the place it is a lot nicer than it was and it was nice to begin with. If you know how to get around the trains and sub-way it will take you about 40 to 50 mins to get to Disney from the new sanno. They have a travel desk in the lobby, ask them and they will give you a train map and directions etc for disney and other places. :) If it is rainy one day and you have kids go to the Prince hotel (the travel desk can tell you how to get there) and see the aquarium/dolphin show.

I recently stayed at the new Sanno (went to Bon Jovi concert!!) and I really liked it. The hotel was extremely nice for the very reasonable price. Plus the Bacardi and Diets at the bar were so strong I was seeing double after just two. My friend and I did not have a problem figuring out the subway system either. If you ask the people at the desk at the New Sanno how to get somewhere (in our case Tokyo Dome) they will give you directions. Ours were pre-printed.
